Japanese instructions and games

Post by OldFoo »

I wasn't sure how to title this, so I may adjust as I go here.

There are many Naomi games (and other great games by others, like Cave, for example) that have instructions that are all in Japanese.

So, I'm wondering how most of you translate them (or learn to play) without being ablt to read Japanese?

(My assumption here is that most folks around here can't read Japanese.)

So for example, I got the instruction strips for Chaos Field and Radilgy, and was trying to figure out how to play from the strips.

Without being able to read Japanese, it was pretty much useless. Now for shmups, you can pretty much figure out the basics without any help (at least mostly.)

For fighters though, there's no way to learn the finer instructions without being able to read.

Any suggestions out there? I'm just looking to find out what some of you do to learn how to play the games where there are no English instructions.

Thanks.

I usually just see if they're any instructions for a game at a site like Gamefaqs.com, or just use regular trial and error.

I am studying Japanese, but I don't know enough to translate really anything yet.
