Question about Chihiro/Lindbergh auctions WITHOUT sec. chip

Ok, seen a few cheap game auctions with the ones above. What's the point about this? Aren't they absolutely unplayable without a security chip? The weird thing is that I seen a few being sold.
What's the point? Cool to own unplayable Sega original GD/DVD roms?
Anyone?
Thanks

Spares Maybe???
GD-ROM can get scratched up so if you have a high dollar title a cheap spare could not hurt

Hmm, maybe it's just me but if I had an expensive game I would be very careful from the beginning. Don't think I have any CD/DVD etc. which are scratched after years of using.
But quite good point there SkiDog.
More? :smt017

In Japan it is common for companies to give out free updates.
So the old software is no longer used, so they YHJ it, as Europeans will often buy them without security chip.
The GD-ROM isn't such a problem now, as MAME has PIC code, and if you got the boot name and DES key you can just make a new security chip.
