Dam you sega!

Well that guy has stopped responding to me, so that idea is out of the window.

I'm currently contacting Craig at giz10p but I've a feeling I've not got the right information as he's already questioned the type of power supply I listed in the 1st post, and tells me a capcom I/O board (which he has) won't work on GD roms?

the capcom i/o voltage regulation circuit it not rated to handle both a Naomi motherboard, and gdrom drive.

I wouldn't buy the Wei-Ya PSU. Instead, go for the Sega SUN PSU:

and use a splitter cable to connect the GDROM directly to the PSU:

http://www.giz10p.co.uk/index.php?_a=vi ... ductId=355

this connects to the PSU at one end, and to the Naomi at the other. The small connector goes to the GDROM drive. The Capcom I/O can then be powered through the JAMMA harness (coming from the cab, or from a Supergun for example).

Multiple options available.. :-)

That's interesting. Is there something wrong with the Wei-Ya version?

Poor components, ALL Atomiswave SD/Egret 3 where fitted with Wei-ya, even those early vewlix where fitted with them.

Prone to breaking down even from new.

Cool, thanks for that guys.

The only thing I need to worry about now is getting a decent control panel. How hard are these things to wire? Do they include anything like soldering, or just simple connecting up?

I'm now looking at getting the following:

-Naomi 1 motherboard

http://www.giz10p.co.uk/index.php?_a=vi ... ductId=133

-Sega PSU

http://www.giz10p.co.uk/index.php?_a=vi ... oductId=99

-JVS Power Extension

http://www.giz10p.co.uk/Cabinet-Parts/W ... d_155.html

-Vewlix control panel

http://www.giz10p.co.uk/index.php?_a=vi ... ductId=301

-Capcom I/O (he has one, but I don't think he's listed it on the site

Either that or if I can find a cheaper/ easier to install control panel.

Am I missing anything?

The control panel must be wired to the I/O. Since all these components are normally inside an arcade cab, you are missing the wiring harness that connects the control panel wiring to the I/O. Everything is connector-based, by the way.

The loom you will need depends on the I/O. If you are planning to run JAMMA games as well, the capcom I/O is a good choice, but you will need to have a JAMMA harness that connects the control panel wiring to the JAMMA interface on the Capcom I/O.

Also, the control panel must be built into some sort of housing, since it cannot be used stand-alone.

If you are still planning to buy a cab, why not buy a supergun for this purpose? It will save you a lot of cash and hassle, and prevent you from ending up with a lot of redundant components once your cab arrives.

Yeah, the guy that is selling the Naomi with Virtua Tennis has suddenly gotten back to me, so I may still try to get that... but the thing's so huge, the reason why I wanted to build my own is that there isn't really space to keep the whole cabinet until I find a new place to live.

I do however like the idea of the supergun more, but where can I find one that works for a Naomi 1? I've seen a picture of a Pana Twin with a Naomi:

http://forum.arcadeotaku.com/download/f ... &mode=view

but I can't find one for sale on the net.

I've seen a Sigma Raijin but the cost is pretty high, and it doesn't even include shipping in the deal.

You dont have to find a super gun that is made for a naomi. Just use a good super gun with the capcom i/o and you should be fine.

But if I were you I would get the cab. If it was anywhere near me, it would already be mine :)
