Looking for some help identifying a few things in this setup

Post by OldFoo »

I'm in the process of acquiring a Net City cabinet, and I'm desperately trying to find out exactly what components I'll need to plug a Naomi setup into the cabinet.

Here's a pic of a setup that I'm considering purchasing:

Can anyone help me identify a few things?

Lower right corner - what is plugged into the I/O board? Obviously, the USB cable, but what are the other wired connections?

There's a small yellow cable that connects to the bottom left corner, but I can't tell where it goes... Same with the connector just to the left of that.

Left Side What is above the audio amp?

Also, what is all of that stuff below the audio amp? I've not seen that stuff before.

In terms of being able to connect this to a Net City cabinet - is it all even necessary?

Which of these things would I definitely not need with the NC cab, if any?

Finally, if I did plug this into a NC cabinet, what would I plug everything into?

There are some great references on this site about connecting the setup, but I'm having trouble finding good pics & info on connecting this to a non-Jamma cabinet like the Net City.

Thanks to everyone for your help.

P.S. - In everyone's honest opinion, is this setup worth $500, or is that too much?

Thanks again,

Steve

Thats a US fugly Universal cabinet, what is it Virtua Tennis or Virtua Golf? by chance, if you break down part by part then $500 is so so, as the GD rom and Dimm will run about 250 on ebay it seems, so the rest is it worth 250? probably a little high, but I have sold the same setups for a lot more, I love my JVS US cabinets and their setup and makes life easier, the item above the audio amp is the audio PSU, needed to drop down the voltages for amp, the only problem I can see, and I dont have a JAP Uni cabinet as such, is the plugs on this setup is Molex and different to JAP cabs which use JST? AMP? either way you would need to cut plugs I guess? Someone please correct me if I am wrong, its been hell of a day!

I can't tell you about the I/O board because I use a JAMMA interface not JVS. But I can try to help on other things. :smt020

Above the sound amp is a transformer for the sound amp alone.

The stuff below the amp are a AC line Filter & fuses. As far as being necessary Josh or someone more experienced than me can chime in on that.

As far as the price I think it is more than fair. I dunno how cheaply you think are gonna get this stuff. Example this is what I paid piece by piece.

NAOMI I Motherboard $75.00

GD-ROM BIOS Update For NAOMI I $17.00

NET Dimm Board $121.00

GD-ROM Drive $175.00

Power Supply $55.00

SCSI Cable $30.00

JAMMA I/O (Not Capcom) $85.00

By My math that comes to $558.00 excluding shipping fees (if applicable)

HEY! you gave me two of those remember? :smt020 I love mine. I don't think they are fugly. I like them and wish I had more. I'd replace my other 3 with these in a heartbeat :smt020

I think it's a Virtua Tennis.

So, price aside, you're saying that I would have to make modifications to the existing wiring (in some capacity), to plug into a JP Net City cab - correct?

Can anyone with a EUR/JP Net City cabinet offer some insight?

If I bought a NC cabinet that was complete in that it was correctly wired and not missing anything, would I need all of this?

If the answer is no, what parts wouldn't I need?

Power supply? Audio amp?

Is this setop overkill for a JAP Net City cabinet, or do I need everything, but will have to change some wiring?

Sorry, but this is a lot of dough to just guess.

Thanks,

Steve

The system in your image is not a jamma setup. The JVS I/O is a little different, but mostly does the same things. The small yellow wire you are asking about is one of the power connections to this board. This type of I/O uses 5v and 12v; the 5v powers the board overall while the 12v is mostly optional and is meant to supply power to lights, solenoids, and other things that would use 12v. The one thing that makes the JVS I/O different from the Jamma I/O is that the JVS can switch on and off lights that would be for lighted buttons that flash at certain times (like the View or Start buttons).

Okay, some good info there for sure.

I understand the difference between using a JVS I/O and a JAMMA I/O and JAMMA cab, but don't know how a JVS cab is fully connected.

I still haven't really gotten an answer about connecting this setup to a JAP Net City cab - possible as is? Any of this stuff I don't need?

Thanks all!
