Naomi Amp Interference

Post by OldFoo »

Popped this message over on AO but didn't get any feedback, hoping for a bit of luck here.

I've got a NNC with the typical Sega amp installed, however the thing likes to pick up radio signals and/or other interference. Volume pot doesn't amplify the noise, but swinging the RCA cable around can worsen the issue (aka an antenna). No major interference once the RCA cable is disconnected from the amp, however.

Any common fault with these units related to the above symptoms? I've got another amp on the way but hoping to resurrect this one in the meantime.

Cheers.

change the length of the rca cables, your cables appear to be an exact wavelength of a local radio station.

also, purchase some toroids and place on the input / volume inputs to the amp, and at your game board end.

Already quite short - tried another cable with exactly the same result. There's more cable by way of amp -> speakers and amp -> volume pot in any case. Bit of a strange design with the way the pot is mounted, imho.

Btw, there's absolutely no issue with the Blast City which is sitting next to it.

No doubt Tokyo Tower in the vicinity is to blame for this. :-)

I'll try the ferrite option..

Cheers.

try also looping the cables in small loops, and making sure all the earth grounds connected.
