Questions About Wiring on NAOMI I/O

Post by OldFoo »

I've also posted this over at Killercabs, so sorry for any redundancy.

I currently have my Naomi semi-consolized by having the I/O board hooked up to a JAMMA harness which then runs to a couple of DB-15 connectors which I plug joysticks into. The cable that runs from the joystick has wiring for btns 1-6, start, joystick directions, and ground (daisychained inside the stick). The JAMMA edge supports all of these except for input for btn 6. So far, so good.

Now, I just picked up Capcom vs. SNK 2 and want to hook up the wiring for btn 6. I know that the CN3 connector on the Sega I/O pcb will support the extra button, but I am unsure what to do about wiring ground for btn6's input.

Do I:
  • a) Use the ground through the JAMMA edge along with the btn6 input on CN3 (in other words--only run 1 wire from the DB-15 connector to CN3)?

    b) Daisychain another ground wire from the JAMMA connector to ground on CN3 along with a wire for btn6 from the DB-15 to CN3?

    c) Disconnect button 6 inside the joystick from the ground daisychain and run another separate ground for only button 6 (using an unused pin in the joystick cable); runs leads for btn6 and the new ground directly from the DB-15 to CN3?

I am unsure of the ramifications of either option a) or b). It seems to me that c) would be the safest bet but require the most work. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Pins 13 & 14 are considered GND for CN3. But you can use any controller GND for button 6.
