Test Menu problem

To start off I have a naomi 1 with a mvc2 cart. My problem is that it will randomly load the test menu screen un game. I have had this problem since I bought the setup in 2003. As of the late the problem has been occuring a lot more making the game unplayable. At first I thought this to be a wiring problem, after unhooking the wire leading to the test menu it still would happen. Im wondering if it may be the small pushbutton on the naomi motherboard. I may be able to get a replacement somewhere and curious as to if this may fix the prob.

Also my 2nd prob would be all my characters are gone. it had been about 3 weeks of inactivity and when I start it up all my experience and characters are gone, is there something I should be worried about. I dont think this should randomly happen. This also happened at the same time my test menu screen would start popping up all the time.

Any help is appreciated.

Have you by any chance replaced the CR2032 coin batt on the mobo? Sounds like the RAM is no longer retaining any store information.

No I havent. Is that the replacement battery number? Where can I get it and is it hard?

CR2032 can be picked up at pretty much any hardware store, supermarket or eBay.

It's a flat round battery, like car remote fobs, or PC motherboard batteries. It should pop out with the aid of a flat screwdriver (very gently), and then put the new one in. Just make sure it's the correct way up.

When the battery runs out, the Naomi is supposed to display an error saying so. However, it won't hurt to try replacing it.

Have you tried running the game's rom test? If there is an error in the stored software, this could push it to the menu.

Are all of the fans clean and working?

Have you made sure the BIOS is sitting firmly in place? Perhaps you should try re-seating it.

What kind of PSU are you using? (Just curious)

I havent done a rom test lately. All the fans are working and I havnt checked the bios. How do I check it, by pushing it back down or do I need tools to do it?

Im running an atx power supply. I have been using it for about a month with no probs.

ATX psu should be fine as long as it's 200W or more.

Removing of the BIOS should be done carefully. There is a tool made specifically for this purpose, but you can use a screwdriver if you are careful. When using a screwdriver, you have to remove it slowly. Starting from one side, you lift the BIOS a little from it's slot, then raise the other side (like a see-saw). Keep doing this until the bios is freed. If you are not careful, you might bend or break the pins.

Check your 3.3 and 5V levels.

Sounds like 3.3V is too low, this causes lock-ups.
