MvC2 boots with "JAMMA I/O BOARD NOT FOUND."

Post by OldFoo »

I just received a naomi1 with MvC2 and Capcom IO board and this is what I get when poweing it on. The problem is, I do NOT want to hook this up to a JAMMA cabinet, so I am assuming that I do not have to use the IO board, which also I am guessing is why that error is coming up, but I don't really know. Is it possible to use MvC2 without having an IO board? At this point I am just trying to get the game to boot at all, nevermind any controls or buttons. Also FYI I am powering the naomi with a PC ATX PSU, and it is only plugged into the 8pin CN1 connector. Is the CN2 connector also necessary? Could that be the cause of this error? Thanks in advance.

Edit: If CN2 is necessary, where can I get a harness or connector that I can use to hook it up to the same PC PSU with?

Generally speaking, the Naomi will not run games without an I/O board. If there is no I/O, the Naomi will not receive any button inputs. An I/O board must be present, connected and powered.

It is not necessary to have both 6-pin and 8-pin connectors to run the system, but the 8-pin should be connected at the least. As long as the psu is 200watts or more, it should be fine.

Thanks for that info Joshua. I had noticed that some people use the Maple/USB connections to run controllers to some other (non-Capcom/Sega IO board) device, and since the naomi has all the connections for vga/sound/etc, I simply assumed that using an IO board wasn't necessary. How exactly does the naomi detect the IO board? Through USB?

Yes, it uses the USB cable to communicate with the I/O. (And, just so you know, it doesn't use the standard PC USB protocol. It uses Sega's own language system.)
