Well after about 2 hours I finnally got Choco Maker to boot to main screen instead of test menu
Too bad I still cant play the frickin' game :smt011
I tried on both N1 and N2 setups.
I tried w/ JPN and US BIOS on both N1 and N2 setups.
Each with seperate DIMM and GD-ROM drives.
I finally manage to get the game to boot.
It was simple. Just disconnect JVS I/O board.
I tried hot plugging the USB cable into the JVS I/O after booting to main screen but it did not recognize the JVS I/O board and/or controls.
I know everything is wired and working because I went through most of my GD-ROM collection and they all booted and played as expected.
Everything except frickin' Choco Maker
Are there different rev's of the JVS I/O board?
Gonna try idea from josh and wire up the coin counter.
This game is driving me bonkers.
Any help appreciated...
Thanks

Choco Maker will not Boot
AndyGeezer wrote:I was right then, I/O boards can cause the problems.
What I/O you using??
Hi Geezer...
I am guessing it is standard JVS I/O
Looks like this but w/o the special wiring when I was doing the board master conversion.
It is in dedicated universal cabinet.
Definiely not JAMMA rev A or B.
Not capcom or Sega V2 converter.
Just normal JVS I/O
Any ideas?
Were there different revs of the standard JVS I/O?

AndyGeezer wrote:bit odd.
Do you have a Sega Jamma I/O handy?
Yep, Very odd, Ussually when I/O board is not detected most games won't even boot.
Even stranger is that as long as I have the correct bios all of my NAOMI carts work in this cabninet (about 20) and all of my GD roms work in this cabinet (about 20) with the current configuation.
Only the darn Choco Maker is giving me the boot to test menu issue.
I do have a Sega Jamma I/O (both rev A and B) but no easy way to power them.
I was going to try swapping JVS i/o for a JAMMA i/o
Do you know of an easy way to power it?
Thanks

Problem Solved... (well almost)
I am running this in a US cabinet w/ molex connectors that was converted to JPN Tyco via alternate Looms.
That gave me an idea.
I am swapped digital I/O connector so that I am back to US looms.
I changed looms back to US (since they are just lying around in my cabinet)
That did it
Game booted w/o control panel
Hooked up US control panel and it worked.
Game played as expected.
Rebooted again, still works.
Disconnected Coin counter that is wired in my US loom and guess what...
It boots into test menu (Coin counter theory looks to be accurate)
Problem 1/2 solved.
Now I just need to reconnect my JPN looms and wire up coin counter to JPN looms.
NE1 know Where can I get TYCO connector and pins for the coin counter portion of loom? 6 pin (2x3)

AndyGeezer wrote:Easiest way is to mod the 60pin JST RA connector, simply run a +5V from any +5V pins (1 to to pin 49, make sure a 100ohm resistor is in bewteen..
Hi Geezer,
On the 60pin JST Tyco loom I have it brings out the wires needed to a 6 pin tyco connector...
08 Yellow (+5V) <-Its a yellow wire not sure if it is really pin 8 but all yellow wires are (+5V) so probably does not matter.
49 Black (Coin Meter 1)
50 Black/White (Coin Meter 2)
I was tempted to just cut off the 6 pin tyco connnector and jumper 8 and 49 (yellow and black wires) with a 100ohm resistor but I don't want to hack up my loom.
I will probaly use your spoofing approach and not wire actually wire the coin counter and use the 100ohm resistor mod but I want to do it cleanly on the other side of the 6 pin tyco connector with the mating tyco connector.
Someday I may even want to wire in the coin counter so it actually works
I'm going to dig through my pile o' stuff and see if I can find a mating connector from my pile o' harneses.
Thanks for the info on how to spoof the coin counter
Bob Presutti
Found a mating connector from my pile o' harneses.
Jumpered the following on the two corresponding wires on the mating six pin connector with a 100 ohm resistor in the middle as Geezer suggested to spoof the coin counter...
08 Yellow (+5V)
49 Black (Coin Meter 1)
It worked
Choco Maker now boots w/o going into test menu and plays as expected.
Removed the connector with the 100ohm coin counter spoof mod and sure enough boot to test menu.
Put it back and sure enough it worked again.
Only game in my collection of about 20 cartragies and 20 GD-ROM that does this...
No Wait...
I think my V-On is similar (but different)...
It boots to game, will start playing and will continue to play as long as you hit 'continue'
After 9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 it goes to black screen and you need to reboot to play again.

Maybe this spoofing the coin counter will solve that issue also.
