Naomi (DIMM 3.17) Ethernet

Trying just for fun to get some signs of life from my Network DIMM.

The network settings doesn't make much sense from a networking perspective. It doesn't seem to be able to do DHCP, nowhere can I set default-gatway/DNS etc, and I always have "remote disabled".

I can however ping it. At startup all it does is send out

Code: Select all

arp who-has 10.109.30.1 tell 10.109.30.1

even if the ip is set to something else.

Any manuals or documentation floating around, or do I perhaps need a naomi2?

Update: it always does arp to the address above at startup, "remote" does however mean DHCP - you just have physically reboot the naomi after setting it. I now have remote,loopback and gateway good - server is N/A, but could perhaps be some dhcp option.

No idea what "mobile" means though.

Don't think they send anything out, it is odd.

I do know that WCCF dimms do connect to a remote gateway, and the Type 3 Tri and Chihiro's do.

I think 3.17 or earlier do not have proper networking. The error message some games give, certainly indicate that.

Was my stupid network setup that didn't provide DNS via DHCP.

"SERVER" in the network test, is that the naomi requests a webpage from a server in japan, that simply returns "naomi ok". If that checks out, you get "SERVER OK" in the test menu.

Andy: any special jumpers that has to be set on the DIMM if you're using networking on those platforms?

That's odd... When I tried it, I remember it getting an IP address. Although this test didn't serve any real purpose, I didn't get any new functionality out of it. I'll have to try it again and see what happens with DHCP.

- Locate JP1..JP3 on the upper board in the DIMM board. They are near the GDROM-connector.

The jumpers must be in this position for satellite mode:

1 3

[. .]. JP1

[. .]. JP2

.[. .] JP3

- when you switch on the triforce, it should say "waiting for

network..."

For Naomi it should be the same, I will play with network too as soon I got my 3.17 Dimm from Andy

After that the Naomi will wait for something on the net.

Let me know if you made some discovery.

Yes, on those settings they download the image from a server, providing the gateway has been setup correctly.

You then get Error messages in the 30 range for network errors.

Thanks! Mine says "CHECKING NETWORK", but doesn't actually do anything at all out the ethernetport as this point.

Andy: anything special implied in "setup the gateway correctly"?
