Sega-Naomi

I have a GD ROM unit and I keep getting "Error 25" on start up. I have run the DIMM board test and everything checks out except the GD ROM says bad.



Do I have to find a replacement GD ROM unit or is there any way to try and fix these?

According to the gdrom manual error 25 means(and I quote):

"[CAUSE]

(1) The GD-ROM drive can not be accessed. (2) The GD-ROM drive cover is open

[COUNTERMEASURES]

(1) Correctly reconnect the GD cable and power cord to the GD-ROM drive.

(2) Close the cover firmly

If the problem is still reproduced, replace the GD-ROM drive."

Error 25 is commonly down to the controller board being fried, common causes are reversing the +5/+12 or the fan stopping = custom IC burning out.

You mean the controller board on the GD-ROM unit right?



Now my other question is I have never found a good image of the correct hook up for this. I have a power cable that plugs into the power supply and runs to the GD-ROM and also to the Sega I/O. The connections can only go one way.

Ah, Uncle Tom's website. His information is correct.



But many people make the mistake of plugging int he 6pin JST for the I/O into the GD-ROM! (as +5/+12 are swapped).



The controller board is in the GD-ROM drive, if you strip it, you'll find a smallish PCB which probably has a pop'd IC.

Sigh, it appears I reversed the +5 and +12, and I've got error 25 now. Is there anything I can do?

send it in for repair or try and buy a new one, because as far as I know there is no easy fix.
