Hooking up a Naomi 2 setup to Boardmaster Supergun

Post by OldFoo »

I have a Naomi 2 Setup and I want to be able to power up the setup to my Boardmaster using a Sega I/O and Sun Power Supply. Do I need a special cable made for the AC adapter?

Well, I'm not familiar with that particular supergun, but they're all kinda similar I suppose...anyways...

assuming that the power supply already has the plugs for the naomi on it, you should be more or less good to go...depending on your setup/personal preference, you might put plugs on the power lines at the jamma harness but otherwise I would think it's ok...

if it's anything like my supergun, you would have 1 power supply for just the naomi and one that was already in the supergun, so 2 total power cables to the wall(although on mine I just consolodated everything to run off the sun ps-it's not as pretty but oh well), and I just unplug the power lines at the harness when running the naomi setup on it...but my supergun has a lot of mods on it too so take it with a grain of salt...I seem to recall there might be a jumper or something on the naomi IO card that you can set so you wouldn't have to add the plugs at the harness...you can check the docs to be sure of that...

anyhoo, point is, only special thing you really have to worry about is the power...everything else is pretty standard...although make sure to set the video dip on naomi to 15khz...so yeah...hope that helps somewhat...

I may have to post pics on how I have it connected, one thing I did notice just to try to see if I can just power the naomi 2 mother board by itself is I connected the 6 pin connector that connects into the GD-rom itself into the I/O and got the fan running on the board but no video. Only thing I hope is I didn't do any damage by doing that since I noticed that the wires that connection is supposed to be connected is a little different when I looked up the diagram. I can see why people opt for the Capcom I/O over the Sega I/O since it's such a pain in the ass to power up.

Be very careful with trying things like that.. especially connecting stuff to things they probably are not meant to connect to..

Post some pictures, so we can take a look?

yes, pics would be extremely helpful...

and to keep things simple, let's leave the gdrom out of the equation for now and focus on the naomi itself....

from the ps there would be 2 plugs going into the naomi...there would then be 1 additional plug going to the IO card(6 pin plug-generally not a good idea to plug this into the gdrom drive power-a plug with only 4 wires goes into gdrom power)...with that in place, the naomi should be able to power up...assuming you have a cart plugged in it were you to connect it to a monitor via vga you should get a pic off that I would think...

so at this point you would connect the jamma harness and unplug the power lines at the harness(12,5,etc) so as not to interfere with the naomi...and in theory that should be more or less it...(depending on how you're doing the audio)...

bare in mind that's a very simplified explanation and take it with a grain of salt as I can't see your setup, etc....

pics would be helpful as mentioned...anyhoo hope that helps
