Powering GDROM + Naomi 2 + Capcom I/O in Astro

What is the easiest way to accomplish this? I feel like someone who has read about hiking and outdoor survival who gets dumped in the desert.
It appears that replacing the whole PSU is probably not the best way, since the Astro has a weird PSU that integrates a buch of stuff on it. Can there be a smaller PSU just for the GDROM unit with the required voltage put in series with the normal PSU?
I know it seems I'm asking the same question time and again, but it's just not clicking for me.
Thanks for any help.

The GD-ROM can be powered with it's own psu should you want to do it that way. All it needs is 12v and 5v to operate, which you can get from a standard arcade psu. Just make sure that you know the connections precisely or you will fry the drive.

Ok, I'll ask someone with more experience in electronics than me to figure out which connections in the Astro psu to use. I certainly don't want to fry stuff.

Would this power supply, used solely for the GD-ROM drive, work?

I would have to splice into the cables going from the wall socket to the Astro's existing PSU, right?
Also, when the system is booting, should there be any video displayed (such as the Naomi splash screen), or is it just blank until the game fully loads?

No, you need a 3.3v feed on the PSU. You can use a standard ATX power supply from a PC with an adapter to JVS though.

You don't have to change your power supply, look at this post

I can't replace the Astro PSU because it integrates necessary cabinet functionality into the PSU - service, test, sound volume, and the like. I just want to get an auxiliary PSU spliced into the power lines to power the GDROM by itself - I think that's the easiest solution. I need the Naomi power plugs, though.
However, on the Astro PSU, the socket marked "DC OUT 2" has an empty 6 socket plug in it; could that be used to power the GDROM? Does anyone have the specs on the Astro PSU?

Nope, it can't. Just do the ATX psu trick, its the most cost effective as you are likely to know someone with an old PC you can get it out of or have on knocking around if you are into computers.

Again, I can't replace the astro PSU.
But why won't the PSU from ebay work? The GDROM drive only needs +12 and +5 according to
http://www.arcade-system.com/articles_h ... _naomi.htm , which is what that PSU supplies.
And, unfortunately, I don't have any spare mobos lying around, and I don't know anyone who does. We're all poor, now.

I am not sure to understand your answer but we don't say to replace your astro city psu but to power naomi system (mobo + gd rom drive) with an atx psu + an adapter atx to jvs as shown just before.
