Hi,
I've got
DIMM Upgrade Disc
VF4FT
An Old Non Working .net DIMM that I can discect and pull out the .net I/O board.
Several working non Net DIMMs that I would like to upgrade to 3.17
Can I simply
1) plug in the .net I/O board to the non-net DIMMS
2) Update the firmware
3) remove the .net I/O board
Any pointers greatly apprciated
Thanks

No, you can't. The part that's updated is the main board, not the daughter board. If you try to update a non-Net Dimm, you will only get an error about the firmware being too old. :smt018

Hi Josh,
Thanks for the reply,
I thought that it was the main board that was updated but it needed the .net daughter board to acutally be recognized as a .net dimm and let the 3.17 firmware update occur.
Is there something different about the main boards on a .net dimm and a non .net dimm?
I saw a post from pete that he had a non .net dimm board with 3.17 and was wondering how that was accomplished.
If you have any thoughts let me know.
Thanks

What he had was a busted .Net Dimm and put a non-Net daughter board on it, making it a 3.17 non-net Dimm. So, it was originally 3.17, but 'downgraded' with a part swap to have a working Dimm.

This still doesn't answer the question if you flash the tsop to 3.17 using a programmer if it will work or not. I'm sure I saw a standard dimm board running 3.17 on ebay not too long ago, the guy was also selling sf4 hdd's.

Usually, the firmware is upgraded through the use of an upgrade disc placed in the GD drive. To my knowledge, I do not believe that anyone on this forum has made any attempt to flash the TSOP directly. Mostly because specific knowledge and know-how would be needed. I'm not even sure there is an ICSP header available for this. :smt017
