Sega-Naomi

I tried searching and was completely unable to obtain a clear answer. So, my question is, simply, no bullshit: How do I connect keyboards to a Naomi for Typing of the Dead?



Can I use USB keyboards? I assume not.



What is this Maple I/O thing I read about? I'd rather not try and track down anything terribly rare to make it work. That includes the Impress panel with the DC connection thing.



Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

It's not really that bad. You'll be happy to know that Maple is the name Sega gave to their version of the system interface on the Naomi. You won't need any special or rare hardware since it is on the Naomi and are labeled as CN6 & CN7. They would be connected like this:







You just need to hack off the keyboard plug to make the necessary connections. Since the connections are pin headers, you may also want to source the plastic JST connectors.

I have one like that. It's not really an I/O, it just supplies Dreamcast connectors for simple connection to the Naomi. The keyboard can be connected directly with no loss in functionality. Not to mention that particular board is not easy to find, especially outside that type of cab.
