Sega 18 wheeler error 22

I own the deluxe version of the arcade game 18 wheeler. Whenever I switch it on, it displays "Error 22: Communication Error between main board and option board". I have been facing this problem for over a month, but have been unable to find a solution. The manual does not help much either. How can I resolve this problem?

Basically means the cartridge has a fault, Error 22 - Is normally Dimm board related, but I think your cartridge has a fault which makes the Naomi think it is a Dimm board.
Could be a damaged eprom or 16bit buffers. Speak to Ken Westerfied at

Before turning to the repair option, have you checked to see if your I/O board is connected and running properly? I once came across this issue of getting Error 22 with no Dimm board attached and it turned out to be that the USB connector had been loosened without me noticing. Give it a try, it won't cost anything.

I performed the game test, and in the RAM test, IC 29 showed "bad", while all others were "good". Also, on performing the DIMM board test, it times out. I cleaned the connectors and boards, with special attention to the RAM board. Now, IC 29 is shown to be "good", along with all other ICs. However, the DIMM board test still times out, and error 22 is still shown.
What could be wrong?

IC29 (62256 SRAM) should be replaced for sure. As for the DIMM board, try it on another NAOMI to see if the problem is with the board or the system.
