noob needs help setting up his first net city cab

Hi,

I'm new owner of a Sega Net City cab, I'm fairly new how everything works inside a cab. I have found lots of useful information here and kinda of have the theory down.

But when I open the cab and saw all these cables running up and down I felt bit overwhelm but took it as a challenge.

I have a Naomi1 and Naomi 2 system with a GD-Rom and Capcom I/O. I want to hook up my Naomi 2 + GD-rom to play Capcom VS Snk 2 and other fighting games. Especially since the DIMM board on my Naomi 2 is v3.17 needed to play VF4FT.

From what I read I need a second power supply to power up the GD-Rom drive? Since the Capcom I/O can not power everything up.

The power supply that came with the cab is a SUN 400-5397-01.

Any information is appreciated.

Thanks,

Here are some pics I took with my camera phone I will take better pics on the weekend.

Since you have the SUN psu, you will not be needing a second power supply. If it's not already included in the wiring you have, you will need a power splitter for the GD drive. The 2 large white connectors shown in the second picture are from the psu. Your cab does not look like a standard Jamma system, so I would imagine that there is an I/O already present. See what is connected to the other side of the USB cable inside the cab. If there is an I/O, it would be located underneath the control panel.

I believe i have a power splitter in one of my boxes. Also I see the I/O just underneath the monitor.

I'm going to head out and buy a multimeter and a tamper proof wrench.

thanks for the info, going to try to get the cab running today.

I took a pic of the IO board its using. Also I manage to get hook up my naomi system + GD-Rom and ran CVS2 with no problems.

I still nee to connect my Capcom I/O, but still not sure how to do that.

Also try to run my CVS1 game and had a couple of bad results running the ROM Test. So i was wondering if its worth fixing or just buy another one?

You do not need the Capcom I/O. The I/O in the first photo handles everything. Your cab is wired for JVS.

If the cab was wired for JAMMA, you would need the Capcom I/O. In this case, you can either keep it in storage for future use (on another JAMMA cab), or sell it on this forum. They are worth quite a bit of money ;-)

By the way: a couple of ROMs test BAD in your screenshot. Unsure what is going on, but doublecheck your voltages for safety (5V and 3.3V, measure these at the Naomi).

thanks for letting me know, i tried to wire all 6 buttons, but for some reason buttons 4 &5 does not function on the P2. But when I have butons 1,2,3 & 6 down and then press 4 or 5 they work. P1 buttons 4-6 does not function all.

I'm going to order some new buttons just in case, cause i have no other buttons to test.

I will re-check the volts again, but my MVC2 game works fine, I tried the CVS1 on 3 different Naomi boards and get the same problem.

I re-checked my voltage again, they were a bit high. But re-adjusted to 5V and 3.3V.

I checked the volts from the amp, once with just the power supply by it self and again connected to the Naomi 1 running a game. Checking through the amp.

I read however the proper way is to check the volts from the board, am I supposed to use the pins that's on the side of the board? The one in the circle?

Also anyone has any input on why my buttons 4-6 are not working properly? 1-3 are working fine on both sides.

I check the settings on the board and its set for 2 players. Only button 6 works on player 2 side. While button 6 is press down, button 4 and 5 will work only on player 2 side. Player 1 side 4-6 does not work at all. I change new buttons and still not working.

thanks for any help i can get.

Voltage can be best measured at the point where they are connected to the Naomi, so on the connectors at the bottom right.

I would not recommend probing the area you circled while the Naomi is running; the risk of shorting two connections is just to great.

thanks, i did not want to touch it since I was not sure about it.

My voltages are correct now. The only problem I still have, are the controls.

I looked in AGS website on how to wire the extra button loom. I followed the directions. My Button 4 White/Orange that's on player 2 side comes out as button 6 during the input test. Since i don't have another extra button loom, I don't know if it's the wire causing the problem.

Is there any other stores in the US that I can purchase this from? I already checked on lizard lick and happcontrols but is not listed on their site. Unless AGS is the only option to obtain it.
