Naomi Power

HI All,
I've been having a scout around the old posts on here, and I have a couple of questions.
From what I understand, the Naomi GD-ROM drive is powered directly from the PSU. As I don't yet have a sega PSU, I plan to use a PC ATX supply for the time being. Should I just make an adapter which will power the GD Drive from a standard HDD power plug???
Also, I have an N1 with Capcom I/O which only uses the 8-pin power socket on the N1. What is the 6 pin one for, and is it really necessary???
Cheers
John

Is it necessary? No, not really. As you mentioned, the Capcom I/O only uses the one connector and it works fine. In fact, if you look at the pinouts of both connectors, you'll see that both have 5 and 12 volts. Interestingly, only the first has 3.3v.
It is my opinion that the second connector was supposed to be an output for 5 and 12 volts as they are probably connected internally to the other connector. But there is no real way of finding out for sure.
As for the GD power, they make an adapter harness that plugs inline to the main power connector. You can sometimes find them on ebay. ECL has them as well.

i think (and hope really strong) that the capcom IO
will give full power to a naomi 2 with gd-rom.
(without specific power supply)
for the connector:
CN1:
1 = 02.5v (not use)
2 = 03.3v
3 = 05.0v
4 = 12.0v
5 = gnd
6 = gnd
7 = gnd
8 = gnd
CN2:
1 = 02.5v
2 = 03.3v
3 = 05.0v
4 = gnd
5 = gnd
6 = gnd

You can try, but I think the general experience is that it either does not work or it works intermittently.

Just get a PC power unit & use the adaptor that will be coming with your kit, & disconnect the Capcom I/O power lead.
Powering with the Capcom I/O off your cabs PSU depends if you can get at least 5.8v out of the 5v line turned up all the way, I had 1 that could only go upto 5.23v & could just only power the board with rom cart.

Cheers Fellas!
I'll just use an ATX supply until I get a Universal Cab (hopefully in the new year - no money left now!!!)
