Sanwa 29" vga monitor, convert to cga?

Post by OldFoo »

I just got a naomi universal cab that was originally a confidential mission game with a sanwa 29" monitor. I am coverting it to a jamma wired cab with super street fighter 2 turbo. I purchased a cga to VGA coverter from jamma boards.com but something about it isn't quite right. I would like to know if I buy a new chassis for a 29" cga monitor, can I convert the tube to be a 29" cga monitor? If it isn't possible, then I will probably buy a new monitor. Can someone recommend something good? Is it even possiblemto buy new nanao monitors?

What isn't 'quite right', if I may ask? What is the problem you are having?

I guess it's lag. The screen is a bit jumpy, and kinda flickers when there is alot of movement happening on screen. I'm certain it's the converter.

I would recommend testing a little bit more using a different PCB and perhaps a different converter. A replacement chassis can make the monitor tri-sync (suitable for all PCBs); giz10p has them:

I have a rodotron chassis in use as well. Not great, but it does the job. Nanao is still one of the best, but hard to get, and expensive.

with this item coming from the UK, should i be concerned about AC requirements here in the US? is the quality of the chassis good for the CPS2?

Best is to ask Craig from giz10p directly (or PM 'Ordyne' on this forum) for details on the chassis.

Voltage in UK is the same as in the US afaik (100v). The CPS2 will run fine on a rodotron chassis. In my experience, the rodotron chassis gives good quality on 15khz. 31khz (Naomi) is average/good. I mainly run 15khz games (neogeo, jamma) on my tri-synced New Astro City.

Make sure to double-check compatibility with your monitor, if not done already ;-)

yes a rodotron 666a chassis is compatible with a sanwa 29es31,also the rodotron 666a chassis can run on 85 to 255vac so no voltage issues

very easy to fit also
