add more than 6 buttons per player plus credit button

Post by OldFoo »

Hi guys,

i have a sega naomi cab (interfaced with a jvs-pac to a pc) and i recently added a control panel with 8 buttons per player; i already have an extra button loom (6 buttons x player are working) so is it possible to make that extra 2+2 buttons working ?

also, i would like to add a credit button (actually i have to press the test mode button on the credit board or via mame), how can i do?

thanks

i was looking at this post

and looks like the "standard" cp connector has 2 spare contacts per player (9 and 10)...so i just have to wire these pins plus GND

is it correct?

What kind of I/O are you running into the JVS-PAC?

If it's the sega I/O, this pinout may help, and may let you get more than 6 buttons per player http://www.tms-designs.com/theshed/defa ... ockid=1854

Otherwise you may need to look into a separate keyboard encoder or something like that, and hook the credit and 7/8 buttons to the keyboard encoder/ipac type device.

The wiring looms are just to make things neat and easy to detach the control panel. the 7th and 8th buttons you may have to run to the I/O directly if the loom doesn't have room for that wiring, or run to a separate device to interface to your PC.

thanks for supporting

yes, it is the sega I/O but not the one you linked, it should be this one

there's no trace of a standard jamma plug inside the cab.

i wont go for another key encoder, too much "brain" work :smt017

I will make some tests hoping nothing will burn, even if actually i filled the 4 extra hole with a white translucent LED buttons...not useful but really cool :D

thanks

Hi, that IO board "only" supports 7 buttons pr player - you can verify with the JVS-PAC, having notepad open and putting a jumper on JP1, that will print out diagnostics.

As for wiring up an extra button, you can in theory add it to pin 4 and 9:

Never tried this tho, as I'm not aware of any games using more than 6 buttons :)

zim is right, the Sega Jamma one can support upto 9 buttons per player.

But I've never seen a JVS game use more than 6 buttons per player, although on WMMT games, button 8 or 9 is the view button - damn you Namco.
