Sega-Naomi

Hi guys! So, I'm working on getting a Naomi setup and I'm considering using a micro-ATX PSU for now (since I won't have a cabinet for a long while). Anyway, I was just wondering if there are any specifications I should be looking at when picking out a PSU? Does wattage matter at all?



Would it be easier to rewire the power supply with the correct wiring and JST connectors, or should I just get one of the conversion wire harnesses mentioned around here?



I would prefer to have a small PSU with a built in power switch, so if anyone has any recommendations, feel free to post here or send me a PM! (By the way, I am located in the US.)

I use a conversion harness & a 300 watt ATX & its runs my Naomi 2 GD-Rom set-up fine.

Thanks for the reply, RGP! Did you make your own harness, or did you purchase it somewhere? Does your PSU have a power switch or, if not, how do you deal with that? By the way, if you have any pics of your set-up, I'd love to see 'em!

I got 1 of the 1's thats on ebay UK, the PSU comes on when power is inputted into it, no switch.

So how do you power the GD-ROM drive? I only see the connectors for the Naomi mainboard...



Regarding the power supply itself: I don't need to worry about too much wattage--it's too little that would be a problem right? For example, a 500w power supply won't damage the system, will it?

I found this one online for about $60. I could do without the chrome look, but oh well. I think they offer a 400w version as well that I would get if I can find it cheaper. Opinions?

The GD-Rom kit should come with the "Y" lead.

I was going to buy a full Naomi w/GD-ROM kit from ECL, do you (or anyone else) know what cables they include?

Thats not the official lead but a custom job it should come with the 1 in the kit, like this 1 here:

No, you don't have to worry about that. The official SUN psu is rated at 163w and it powers a full setup no problem. I think that if you get a 200w or 300w, that will be more than enough. Plus, at the 200w range, the psu's can be alot smaller. You won't get the small size with a 500w. I recommend an MATX (Micro ATX) type which are in the 200-300w range.
