Dead Dimm Board

What causes a Dimm Board to die? I swapped out my HOTD 2 mobo with a GD Setup and it worked flawlessly for a few hours in my HOTD 2 dedicated cab. Powered off the cab came back the next day and I started getting an error 22. I swapped GD drives, same error, swapped Dimm Boards and it works. I even used the Dimm in another cab, and I receive the error 22. So it's definitely dead and I am wondering if there was something that I possibly did that would have killed it. Could the HOTD 2 cab power supply possibly done anything to the Dimm board? Any thoughts?

Thanks!

in the naomi test menu, there is a "dimm-board test"

you can try this to see the result...

Have you tried opening the dimm module to reseat the daughterboard and memory sticks?

I tried both. It just times out on the test like it does not even detect the board.

That's bad news.:smt009 Unless something else is loose, or some pin is bent, it's probably dead. I have a dead one and it acts just like that. I have yet to find what exactly is wrong with it.

Inside the Dimm module is a pair of ram sticks and a smaller board attached to the main dimm board. Sometimes they come loose and cause errors. Reseating these components is the first troubleshooting step to eliminate loose parts as a possible cause of errors. There is no need for pics since taking apart the module is super easy. Try it, you might learn something. :D

Thanks for asking the question Merovingian. When I first read the post, I wasn't sure, but when I took the board apart, I guessed that's what he was talking about and those were the items are worked with. Glad to know I did it right!

I've got a non-working 3.17 Net dimmboard too.

With my other (non-net) dimmboard the boot sequence goes like this :

1 - the screen is a deep black for 2-3 seconds, as if there were no video signal

2 - the screen becomes a lighter black

3 - then rapidly it fades in to white with the Naomi logo, and starts checking memory etc.

The faulty one seems to prevent my Naomis from booting correctly.

I don't have any error message, the screen just stays blank :

- with my Naomi 2 mobo, I have step 1 above for about 7-8 seconds, then it seems to flicker with the lighter black from step 2, then goes back to 1

- with my Naomi 1, it stays at step 1

I've tried reseating the dimms and daughterboard too, but it did not improve anything...

Any other ideas ?
