I was thinking of buying a four slot board for my cabinet which currently has MVC2 in it. My question is since the MVS system is jamma compatible do I need any special cables or converters to change my set up to a neo geo cabinet?

That would be a yes! Although the connector on the MVS looks jamma, the connections are different. I suggest getting a --->MVS to Jamma adapter.<---Click here



If you try to connect it to the jamma harness the way it is, you will most likely burn out the audio amp.

I read a few posts on Neo Geo forum saying that I did not need this? Also is the audio problem true for the many single slot variants or just for multi slot boards. Sorry I am just confused because they all say their jamma compatible? :smt017

The confusion here is that the MVS will fit onto a jamma harness. Some of the controls will work. The problem is, jamma tends to only wire 3 buttons to the harness and expects a kick harness for any extra inputs. MVS uses 'unmapped' pins for buttons 4 and after. Audio does not play through the usual speaker because it is not mapped to the regular pins. In other words, you will get no sound. The multi-cart variants use stereo sound, so it is wired differently.



You can use a jamma harness and put the correct wires to the correct inputs and outputs, but then other standard jamma games will not work. This is what the MVS adapter is for.

Ooooohhh I see thanks for clearing that up. I was confused because people seemed divided. I guess the real issue is whether you want to convert the cabinet to a Neo Geo only set up in which case re wiring makes the most sense other wise buying a jamma converter which is much easier to change if you want to play any standard jamma boards again makes more sense.

Further complicating matters is that there are varieties of MVS boards (only a few of the 1 slot models, I think) that ARE jamma compatible (i.e. mono sound). The 4 slot is not one of them, however. There are good and bad parts to this. The bad part is obviously, you need a converter. The good part is the 4 slot supports stereo sound as well as bass, so if you modded your cab to have a sub (I put a small one in mine), it totally rocks. :smt020
