It uses M2 feedback, misses the DSB(1/2) and has a Hi/Lo shifter. So it is defo not the best cab to upgrade, much much work and money involved. Trust me, finding a real M3 panel is not an easy task...

I've converted a Touring Car machine to model 3 (very easy) and installed a Daytona 2 Power Edition boardset. The original model 2 feedback board works fine using the TC rom. So you dont miss out on feedback!

The Hi/lo shifter is easily changed for a 4 way (all the wiring is there).

Sound works but obviously if you want music, you need to install a second amp, interconnect board and the dsb 2. The wiring is the same for the dsb 1 and 2.

Obviously you could still run them with some heavy wiring rework/shifter mod. But you'd miss force feedback, which is the key difference between an upright and a sitdown...

To be honest, it's not THAT difficult a job to do, but yes, starting with a newer model 3 cabinet would make the job easier, albeit at a price premium.

As Geezer said, what you suggest is a half working mod. It's like playing OR2 with M3 feedback = no good.

Now obviously it depens if you're happy with it considering the money you spent on the machine.

My own POV is to play the real deal.

On the FF side, Geezer should confirm my thoughts but M2 wheel wont work with M3 boards

As I already stated, it's fine for me until I get my package of FF and other boards. Once I've done that I'll swap them over.

I too want the 'correct' feedback in my machines, but this is an acceptable alternative until the boards arrive.

As written above M3 FF boards wont work unless you have a M3 panel...

Actually this whole gossip started because you told I was wrong with saying it was not an easy task to convert.

Knowing all the parameters and required parts it can be done, but it's not fair to let a newcomer in racers believe it is an easy and totally abordable mod to convert a M2 (or lemans which use M2 parts) to a M3.

End of story

I've already tested an M3 board and it works fine. The machine is basically an M3 now as I said before. There are many mods and enhancements I've made to the machine that you're not aware of.

Nowhere did I say you were 'wrong', I said it 'wasn't that difficult' to convert it to M3 and I stand by that, it ISNT that difficult to convert it, depending on your skill level of course.

Can't argue with that! :) I programmed up a set of eproms for it, only to play 1 game them erase them again... lol

I'm pretty sure its medium, at least it played in my Rally 2 cabinet ok.

Games that use the same feedback system as Lemans are

Indy 500

GT24 hr

OverRevs

Sega Touring Car

The Japan Lemans uses 4 VR buttons and also uses the Scud Race feedback hardware, I guess outside of Japan they wanted to recycle left over spares from Touring car, as I heard it was a big crappy turd.. That game does suck!

The Model 3 drivers (other than Lemans) all share the same common drive and motor boards, however each game has it's own eprom which goes on the drive board, failure to change the eprom will result in strange or missing feedback noise.

Quite enjoyed the music in Touring Car though, rest of the game was forgettable. I'll eventually get it copied over to Daytona 2 as the music for that isn't to my taste.
