New Astro City + NAOMI -> reboot problem

Hi,

I have had my NAOMI for several years, but now have the opportunity to buy a New Astro City cab. It had a 15/24khz monitor.

I want to know if there are people with NAOMI in a New Astro City and what they think about it.

Also, I don't have a GD-ROM unit, so I don't think I will need to buy a separate PSU. Am I right?

The games I have are:

Virtua Striker 2 ver.2000

Virtua Tennis

Cosmic Smash (only playable in 31khz?)

Please help me out. I don't have the opportunity to buy another cab very easily right now. The Astro City is a now or never deal...

In my honest opinion, Naomi doesn't look that great at 15khz. The screen is a little jumpy. Its still playable, and if you have a Capcom I/O you won't need the extra power supply.

Actually my New Astro City came with a Blast City power supply installed (luck of the draw I guess), so you may want to ask the person to send you a picture of it to confirm what PS is in there.

There have also been many people who have upgraded their New Astro City monitor chassis with a Wei-Yah to play 31khz. So add another ~$160 if you want to play Naomi at native VGA.

I fear shabby looking graphics indeed. I will google Wei-Yah, but what is it? Just an upgrade for the monitor?

Sorry I think I spelled the name wrong. They are a manufacturer of arcade monitor chassis (PCB) and sell a replacement chassis for New Astro Citiy which essentially upgrades it to tri-sync.

Try searching for "Wei-Ya C3129A".

I'm sure there is a replacement chassis to turn it into tri-sync, but it will be different than the chassis model used for the Astro City. I'm sure if you ask Excellentcom or similar reseller, they will have a recomendation. You may also want to ask grantspain on arcadeotaku forum.

To bad the killercabs site went down as they had a forum section devoted to these monitor questions.

Thanks for the answers. I'm also considering a Sega STV and CPS2, so that would be perfect for the Astro City. Also my Model 2 board will do good on it.

But NAOMI on 15khz is just like a dreamcast on a normal TV with scart. Could be worse!

I have tried both modes and either I am blind or too stoopid to care. I like the VGA mode best. However 15k mode doesn't look bad at all either. :smt020
