Crazy Taxi Freeze Up
Crazy Taxi Freeze Up
Hi, I'm having an issue with my Crazy Taxi arcade. The naomi started to lag at some parts in the game and got worse over time. Now the machine lags/flashes really slow when I power it up. I swapped out naomi's and put the crazy taxi cart in. It will go the the "Loading Crazy Taxi" screen and freeze up there and do nothing. I've even swapped the bios chip just to see and still the same problem. I'm stumped if anyone has any ideas I'd be very grateful.
One idea
It sounds like it might be a heat issue. Does the system start ok from cold, then slowly degrade over a few minutes?
The Naomi fans do quite a good job of sucking dust into the unit, especially in dusty environments such as arcades that dont get cleaned often. I've had a couple of naomis from arcades that when I opened them were literally packed with dust.
If the dust collects in thick layers over the heatsinks etc. it can cause the chip under the heatsink to run much hotter.
Slightly overheating chips tend cause glitches rather than just fail straight away. In an otherwise working system it often appears as just subtle graphics or other wierdnesses that get worse as the machine warms up.
Persistent overheating does stress components badly. If it gets bad enough without being fixed over time it could potentially cause the hardware to be permanently faulty or fail completely.
One other guess is to run the rom test in the maintenance screen and make sure you havent got a rom gone faulty on your cartridge.
