ID2 Net Dimm Board

Post by OldFoo »

Is a Net Dimm board different when it is originally from a Initial D version 2 cab?

The problem: Some games work perfect no problem at all. Other games give me a error 22 they might play fine for a few minutes then reset and give error 22 message. I have tried taking the DIMM apart and resetting the daughter board. The DIMM is from Initial D 2 is there something different about this DIMM board that makes it act different? I thought I had read something about "Serial to parallel conversion"? Or maybe some kind of alternate dip switch setting on the dimm main board? When I got the system it came with a communication board for linking. Is there a switch to tell it that this communication board is there or not?

On a game like SPAWN if I goto game settings menu and turn the network setting from slave/master to OFF then I don't get any problems. But on a game like Toy Fighters I get to play for like 3 minutes and then the game resets to error 22. There is no setting to turn off the networking in the game settings menu of Toy Fighters.

I have switched out the Naomi 2 motherboard, cables, and even the I/O and no change in the problem. I have checked the voltages. Any idea what is going on??

Can you take a photo of your jumper positions?

Also, what version is the DIMM board running?

Some others probably know about anything ID2 specific, but I can verify the jumpers for you, and if it's not the latest ver you probably want to upgrade.

Most ID's I see are fitted with a Net Dimm firm 3.03 (Export/UK market)

However in USA seems on some machines they used regular (non-net) dimm boards.

Jumpers should be fine, ID2 requires a 256MB dimm board, so on that dimm board you should be able to run ALL Naomi 1 and 2 GD-ROM games (except for VF4-FT which requires 3.17)

One thing you should check is the voltages while the troubled game(s) is running. As the system uses more CPU resources, demands on power rise.

Is there some dip switch setting that means "don't check for the communication board"? Every game keeps looking for a communication board even though they don't use one it seems. Maybe I am way off though.

Some way to "default off" the communication board.

Thanks for the help.
