Another Newbie. Please Help
Hi everybody I just purchased my first Naomi system. Its a Naomi 1 with a common SEGA I/O and good ol Zombi Revenge
. But anyway my biggest question is what will it take to run House of the Dead 2? I know I'll probly need gun sensors and gun controllers but is there anything else that I need terribly? Like I said I'm new at this and any help would be appreciated

This thread might help

I am kind of working on a similar project same project
HOTD2 is Cart and CM is GD-ROM, outside of that pretty much everything else is the same.
The wiring harnesess will likely be the thing you will need to work out based on your cabinet

69NovaSS wrote:So HOD2 is both cart and gd-rom huh? Like I said I'm new at this. The Cabinet is basicaly from scratch. It's a Gauntlet Legends Dark Legacy Cabinet. The big one. Can you enlighten more about the game itself works. I thought it was just that cartridge
I really dont know anything about Gauntlet Legends Dark Legacy Cabinet.
But if Gauntlet Legends Dark Legacy Cabinet is not a shooter I think it will be difficult to convert this to a shooter. (difficult but I guess nothing is impossible)
If you have a CM, MAZE, or HOTD2 cabinet pretty easy to run all the shooters.
I do not own anything but CM but I think
HOTD2 = Cart
CM = GD ROM
MAZE = GD-ROM
Crimsom = Cart

Ok that clears things up. Gauntlet Legends is not a gun cabinet. Like I said M going from scratch. I can work our watever it takes but Im not sure what all I'll need. I know I'll need gun sensors and gun controllers but I wanted to know if I needed a different I/O and something else I dont know about
Well I had a Gauntlet Legacy Cabinet and its certainly possible, although going to take a bit of work, the only possible problem is the rake of the glass which is angled a fair bit? would this affect the accuracy? you have just enough room top and bottom of the bezel to cut the sensors in, and certainly enough room inside for the naomi and parts to fit, the only thing is the angle of the glass and bezel. Where are you located as I have quite a few empty Naomi Shooter cabs (woodys) which would serve you better.
I took a look on KLOV for Gaulent Lenends
http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=7926
KLOV list monitor as Medium Resolution Monitor.
How is you monitor hooked up to NAOMI in the Gaunlet Cabinet?
Not positive, but I think the NAOMI conversion for a shooter will also need a 15KHz or 31KHz monitor.
(or maybe not because KLOV lists CM and HODT2 as Medium Resolution also :smt017. )
Do you know what type of monitor is in you Gauntlet Cabinet?
Also, as englishman_in_plantcity mentioned, the angle on the monitor for that cabinet looks like it has quite a pitch for a shooter.
Also, is your SEGA I/O a JAMMA converter in you Gauntlet Cabinet?
(If so I think you need JVS I/O and not JAMMA interface)
Not trying to discourage your conversion but I you can grab a gutted MAZE, HODT2, or CM cabinet might be a better place to start.
Also, for all of the price and the work might be easier just to buy a HODT2, CM, or MAZE (working or project) and start from there.
The main reasons I am doing conversion is
1) I really like the look of the NAOMI universal cabs
2) It is darn near impossible for me to get a woody up to my 3rd floor
(Although I did get a 700lb Daytona 2 Sit Down up there by taking it apart into about 20 peices, not so easy to take a woody apart)
Good Luck with however you proceed. Will try to help where I can.
(Wish me luck w/ my conversion also)

Whoa Whoa. I haven't installed anything yet. I hadn't a clue about the monitor resolution. The game was free and I personaly don't like gauntlet so I was going to gut it. Now as far as angle I don't comprehend. Maybe your looking at the smaller Gauntlet. The one I have is the big gauntlet cabinet. It sort of resembles a Marvel vs Capcom 2 cabinet on klov. It has an elongated controller base and a moniter with no angle. It looks like these

OK, Got a better understading of what you have.
IMHO this will be a bear to convert to a shooter.
So Zombie Revenge is not installed in here yet. Is this correct?
OK, This is what I know.
NOAMI virgin video output is switcable between 15KHz and 31KHz
KLOV list Gauntlet as 24KHz. (Medium Resolution)
Maybe the Cabinet is 31KHz and you are OK on the monitor.
If Monitor is Medium resolution to the best of my knowledge there is no direct way to connect the monitor w/o a converter.
As far as Optic sensors take a look at this link
http://www.sega-naomi.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1528
Somehow you would need to cut holes in the bezel to be similar. 5 sensor on top and 5 on the bottom appropriately spaced
(Not sure if there is room behind the bezel to do this)
Then you need to work out all of the wiring harnesses.
(Again, IMHO this is going to be a bear for a shooter)
On the brighter side...
For running most NAOMI games, assuming this cabinet is wired for JAMMA you should be able to get a JAMMA converter and plug into existing JAMMA interface for Zombie and other NAOMI games that run with Joysticks and buttons. Still would have some work to do here but hard to answer w/o knowing monitor resolution and if cabinet is wried for JAMMA (According to KLOV it is)
If I were closer I would be happy to take a look and give it the ole college try.
