Dimm Compatibility or GD Problem?

Post by OldFoo »

Hi everyone,

I am a bit of a Naomi Noob and just got in my GD-rom setup I got off YAJ. I am using a naomi 1 mobo with 21576E bios.

The Dimm board that I am using says it is a NET Dimm in the auction and the firm number of it is 3.03.

I am also using the capcom i/o and a Wei-ya 3.3 power adaptor on 110v (located in n.america)

When I power on, I see only red lights on the naomi mobo and I can hear the speakers and Gd-rom power up and spin. But I only ever see a black screen even after several minutes.

I was wondering if I need to use a Naomi 2 board for this setup or I have just hooked up the power or some bit incorrectly.

Any Help is very appreciated, Thanks guys

-Sam

I'd say you'd better use a dedicated PSU.

Thanks for the reply. I am planning to go buy one of those, but before I do could I please get a confirmation that the NET Dimm board will work with my Naomi Bios?

TIA

your dim is bad plugged or faulty, or you have your machine set as 15k video out and your monitor cant handle that video mode

Ok, thanks. So the NET Dimm does work with that Bios? Well I can assume it is not the 15k monitor problem, as regular naomi cart games work and the Dipswitch settings are correct for 15k.

So would it be safer to assume that the dimm is at fault or the power supply?

I am hoping to really only buy either or, but if I must buy both new, there's not much I can do.

Thank you for helping me troubleshoot

if you plug the machine with just the dim (without gdrom) the machine will start and will give you a communication error, if the cartridge you plug is fucked you will get a black screen, same thing happens when you plug a faulty dim, i recomend you to dissasembly the dim, as sometimes the upper board (the one that has the ethernet connector and scsi connector) is bad plugged and makes the naomi not start, this should be your problem ...

hope i helped you

Hi, thanks for that tip, the board must be bad or the NET Dimm does not work with this bios. I cannot get the naomi screen to pop up with or without the security cart in the dimm.

Thank you for your help!

That bios supports the GD system, so the version should not be the problem.

So, any Dimm will work with that Bios even the NET version?

Yeah. The original bios release didn't have the code to support the GD system because it wasn't yet available. The upgrade fixed that.
