Monitor problem - need help/advice

The monitor in my Killer Instinct cabinet is having some issues.

Sometimes, the screen will darken, and sometimes it will even black out completely.

It's random when it happens, and sometimes it won't happen for a while, and sometimes it happens right away.

If I bump the machine, it will correct it, or sometimes will cause the problem.

I'm not technical really, so any suggestions/advice is appreciated, in layman's terms.

Monitors are not something to fool around with if you are not technical and understand where high voltages are located. I'd suggest you put a post out on KLOV.COM message board and find a collector near you that knows more about monitors and take a look at it. Probably some loose connectors on the chassis. Also stop hitting the side of your cab.

you have a bad solder joint on the monitor chassis somewhere,normally it will be on the flyback transformer but it could be anywhere

Common failure.

Bad solder joint on the flyback or on any of the other connectors (yoke, neckboard connector, CRT socket, etc...) on the monitor. While you have it out you might as well put a cap kit in for good measure.

I appreciate the last two comments, but honestly, I have no idea what you're referring to.

I wouldn't dare remove the monitor, let alone mess with soldering.

Do you have any operators in your area? If so give them a call and see if they can do a repair for you. Taking the monitor out is not as difficult as you think. Just be careful of the wire that leads to the tube and you'll be fine. :smt020

but of course before you attempt to mess with a monitor, make sure you discharge it first...just in case you decide to give it a shot.

You should post on the KLOV forums. There are a few guys there from the Austin area that could help you find someone local.
