Attention mods: Can we revise the Naomi 2 Description??

Post by OldFoo »

The Naomi 2 setup description is extremely misleading (found under the hardware description).

The setup is basically the same, except you might not need the extra Sega power supply if using a Capcom converter. If you turn up the +5v on your power supply all the way (normally 5.8v will be required, some older PSU's may only go upto 5.2v), it will usually work without the Sega power supply, but may cause long term damage, always try to use a separate PSU if you can.

To the average newcomer to the naomi, the copy reads that its OK to attempt to run your Naomi GDRom setup by cranking your +5v WAY out of operating spec. Anybody who owns a naomi, and knows SOMETHING about electronics should realize this is a terrible idea. Doing this is a fast way to ruin your naomi. Please revise before people ruin their systems. Even the GDRom manual says to use the Sun PSU to power it...

So, anyways, if no one feels like writing some copy, I'd be more than happy to revise it.

Cheers,

I ran mine for years that way, no probs before going JVS.

Write your description in this thread & I may get around to adding it.

I agree, cracking up the 5 line can't do nothing but real damage in mid/long term.

Well, I'm not copy writer (code-writer by trade). If this sucks, go ahead and modify as you see fitting.

The setup is basically the same as the Naomi 1 with the exception of the Naomi 2 motherboard. All Naomi 1 parts and accessories are compatible. It is recommended that when running the Naomi GDRom system that you use a JVS power supply with the proper amount of amps. The sun PSU is the best solution, however most ATX power supplies will work.

Also, upon reading more, I noticed that the Hardware description is peppered with references to powering the entire N2 rig off of a capcom I/O. I would strongly recommend revising those descriptions, and would be more than happy to do so.

Thanks,

Bill
