MVC2 - Error 1 Game Not Rocognized by Main Board

Post by OldFoo »

I should have read closer when I bid on this.

I thought it was just a good old MVC2 but I did not read the fine print

"MVC2 - Error 1 Game Not Rocognized by Main Board"

Anyway, got the cart today and plugged it in a sure enough error 1

(pretty much the same error when you have incorrect BIOS or no cart installed)

So I went into test mode and ran the rom board check and I guess the good news is that it read values for all of the rom's that are populated and reads '0000' with IC33-38 which are not populated

Tried with both US and JP BIOS. Same results

Made sure the connectors were all good and 'tight'

Romoved case and visually inspected the board (both sides) and saw no obvoius issues

So a couple of questions

1) Are the rom values for IC11-32 correct?

2) Any ideas on any other items to check?

3) Worth sending to Ken for repair?

Thanks

Bob Presutti

There are other issues as well. Such as 'Unknown Title' and no 'Result', only null (dashes). The 'Type' column shouldn't read with question marks. Since your visual inspection showed no obvious damage, this game should be worth a fix by Master Ken. :D

I'ma chime in on this one. I bought a MVSC2 cart from the same guy. When he sells non working stuff it's f*ed to the highest order. I hope Ken can fix it for you. He still has mine and so far it cannot be fixed. Good luck Bob :smt020

Looks like the buffers have burnt out..

Not good reading, but it effects ALL Naomi 1/2/Hikaur/Tri-Force and Chihiro stuff.

The fairchild or TI buffers will fail if they haven't already. I assume its inferior parts but I promise one for one they will all fail at some point.

My only advice is never, never run any of the formentioned systems higher than 5.25V under load, as you will burn the chips up.

Hi Andy, et al.

Thanks for the feedback.

I bought the MVC2 cart in this condition. (I should have read the fine print)

Do you know if the fairchild or TI buffers surface mount components or throughhole?

Do you know location on board?

Can I 'steal' these from another game cart?

I have someone skilled in SMT removal and replacement that can help me.

Any direction anyone can provide?

Any help appreciated

Thanks

You need about 9 roughly, they are SMT little mofo's, probably best to Ask Ken on what buffers are valid replacements.

Removing from a donar would be tricky..

they are 16BIT buffers IIRC

Hi Geezer

Probably just easier to send to Ken.

Off it goes. :D

He said he has repaired about 100 of these and ussually takes the shotgun approach of replacing all the buffers and filter cap and that ussually gets it straight.

He gave me an initial quote that seemed resonable so with any luck I'll have about $200 into the MVC2 which is not that bad.

Thanks

Just another reason why I love this site. I get a wonderful blast city cabinet from one of its members, then I see this awesome info about "5.2v under load." I grab my multimeter, load up MvC2, and then do a 3-character super, and sure enough, I went from about 5.3v to 5.2v during the super.

Sorry to hear about the initial woes of the poster, but just another big thanks to all the help you pros throw out here for us!
