Problem with GD Rom

Hello everybody,

My setup is a jamma sega I/O, a naomi 1 with a bios which is compatible with GD rom, my jamma power supply, my sun psu, a dimm non net.

The problem is : if I hook up everything, I have a black screen and the mobo and the gd drive are not running.

My mobo, my I/O, my sun psu are working for sure (tested with a cart game). I have also tested the gd drive in another cab and it was working. I have tested without the gd drive but with the dimm and it was working. I checked the sun psu and I had 12,15 V and 5,2V on the connector which is supposed to be for the gd drive.

Please find enclosed a picture. I would really appreciate any help ! Thank you in advance :smt008

try unplugging the gdrom power see if you get power and an error message

I did and this is how I got the 12,15 V and 5,2V from the sun psu. On the screen, I got something like "Initializing the gd system" and of course it is stocked here. Thank you for your advice.

A fried GDROM drive assy should display Error 22 (dimm/cable/drive related), Error 24 (BA chip/laser related) or Error 25 (drive controller board fried).

Grant or Andy, correct me if I'm wrong.

Manuals are full of info, it is always wise to read them before proceeding

now just try the power supply connected to the gdrom drive and see what happens

I have already read the manual footix but as I said when I got everything plugged including the gd rom drive, I have a black screen (so no error displayed) and I can hear that the mobo and the gd rom drive are not running.

Grantspain : I will try that and let you know

N80G80 sold me the GD rom drive as working. Maybe he could provide some information.

This is why Grant asked you to boot it up without the drive hooked, It should display an error, prolly 22 or 25. If not then your problem is elsewhere.

Anyway this is weird. Shortcircuit in the drive maybe?

I just did your test Grantspain :

the gd rom drive is still not running

I checked the psu and now I have approximatly 3.5 for everything 12V and 5V.

I guess there is something completly wrong here :smt011

something is causing a dead short or overloading the power supply,now its either something like a screw dropped onto the gdrom servo board or something plugged in back to front

what i have just informed you of is what i do to fault find problems like this as it takes 2 seconds to prove where the fault lies

just applying power to the gdrom and checking the disc spins will prove that the problem is power overload-if you get no disc activity then you need to fault the power circuit to the gdrom and double check the wiring is connected correctly

Also, it needs to be pointed out that the supply wiring for the I/O and the GD-Rom are different. Compare the two connectors and see if the wiring is the same or different.
