I booted up my Naomi 2 for the first time to get hit by a double dose of trouble.
First thing being the checkered screen. You can't see it in the picture, but it is also flashing, making me think its a video syncing issue. The picture is taken from a widescreen lcd monitor, but I was also having this problem on my standard CRT monitor that I have set aside for the Naomi 2. I didn't see any swollen caps, bad traces, or excess dust anywhere on the motherboard or cart.
You may have also noticed the error 01 in the picture.
So anyways, I turn up with all these problems on screen whether or not I have the cart. Could these issues have a common source lurking somewhere behind them?
I bought this Naomi 2 on ebay without anything in the description mentioning these problems. Since it's not a simple fix I just emailed the seller and hopefully I can get my money back.
After carefully examining the motherboard I didn't see any physical damage to any traces, capacitors, etc. Well I hope this isn't a common fate amongst Naomi 2's. I'd still like to own a working one for my cab.
I've never had a problem with BGA's - but would jump on the chance to try to fix it if I did.. What about using a hot-air station on the chip (or under unless it has other components there) to reflow the balls?
