You need to replace the cap you removed. Also you can use GND/+5v from one of the surface mount caps, + is 5v the other pin is GND. :D

I think someone mentioned that the Naomi would work without the cap?

Yes that would work, although if you check the pins with a meter I am sure you'll find they are already getting 5v / gnd.

I can't see any sign of the old cap leaking but if it did there are also traces that go to the EPROM and IC29 that could just as likely be damaged.

No.

That + leg on the cap is current limited.

The corner pin on that memory chip, IC 29, is +5v. The opposite corner is ground.

Before you did all the wiring, did you verify that the traces were indeed bad? If they are not bad then you did all that work for nothing.

Nope my multimeter is kinda broken so i wouldn't rely on it. Also i figured that it would be fun to try soldering on the Altera chip with Kynar wire. It was pretty fun...

Buying a new multimeter sounds like a better and better idea every day :)

Hi,

It seems I have the same problem but it is on NAOMI 2 mobo....

After the memory test I have a bed IC29.....

Reading this post I tought to have found the solution but looking on my naomi 2 mobo on the 5V round capacitor area i sow that the 8 pins

EEPROM is far from it.....I mean it is not that close or not in the same position of NAOMI 1.....

Any suggestion af what I have to check????Traces or something like that!

thank
