So, I got Virtual On OT Naomi and am playing it on a Naomi with a Capcom I/O on a New Astro City. I am not sure what version of the bios I have, it is a two chip switched solution bios, currently set to JP.
Here is the problem.... when I power up VOOT the start button is unresponsive, I assume the controller is as well.
If I put in another game the start button works fine and the controller does as well so this does not appear to be wiring related.
Any ideas out there? Are there Naomi games that just don't like the Capcom I/O? Does this sound like a bios issue?
thanks!

yep, using the CP for this, but it's only 2 digital joysticks with 2 buttons each and a start button. Other than where everything is located it appears to be standard wiring.
Try the test menu in VOOT and see what the joysticks, fire buttons, and start buttons react too.
Also, would reccommend JVS I/O

Well on start up I can enter the test menu, but that only responds to service and test (note that once the demo is on it no longer responds to test mode from the power supply).... if I then enter the VOOT test sub menu, it's supposed to respond to service and test to get to the input test screen but does not, so I can't get there.
Is it possible this cart only responds to JVS for some reason??? Would the Capcom Jamma I/O cause a conflict???
Finally... what the is the best way to rewire a cab to JVS if needed? I have rewired Jamma so not afraid of the work, but a total noob when it comes to JVS.
found an old thread where SkiDog mentions the game "locking up" when he let the credits run out. When I first plugged this in it went to "Free Play" which I thought was odd but didn't question it since I'd prefer it on Free Play anyway, maybe it's locking up on me?
So, tonight I'll set it to use coins and see if things improve. Also ordered the newest Naomi JP bios just in case....
Fingers crossed! Can't wait to play this!

no go.... it doesn't recognize the coin switch.... so I guess Capcom IO or bios issue....

there is a coin counter but it appears unresponsive (tried it with another game), will have to check out the wiring for it and get it going....
--> new behaviour.... now, on boot up it acts as though I have put in a credit and hit start (even though I have not)... goes to the mech select screen and it totally unresponsive. Not sure what would have changed between then and now though so the behaviour has changed but I have learned nothing.
I'm open to it being a short somewhere but the Naomi and cab works with all other games so far.

I moved the set up over to another cab that has a working coin counter, and no change. It boots up with controls unresponsive but the game starts immediately on it's own as though I've put in a coin and pushed start.
It will go to the Naomi test screen if I push it before the game boots up only. Once any demo screens appear test is unresponsive. Coin switch appears unresponsive at all times.
From the test screen I can select the VOOT test, but it freezes upon presenting the options.
All this behavior is only for this Naomi cart, all other carts are fine.
so weird.
