Speaker Problems, sound to low on new cabinet...

Post by OldFoo »

Hey guys i just got a newer namco noir cabinet (aka tekken 6 cab). Anyways im installing a xbox 360 into it. As of right now i have just have some RCA's spliced into the jamma harness temporarly. Im getting sound but it is not very loud, at max on my volume control it is only at a normal sound level. I have traced my wiring so let me try to give a little diagram of how it goes and i have pics below...

Jamma harness runs to input on volume control board, volume control board runs two outputs to an amp, the amp then runs to the speakers left and right.

In general, the Jamma harness has no amplification and relies on the game board's on-board amp. If the cab has an audio amp, your pictures do not show it. Your second picture shows the test/service buttons and the second looks more like a filter board. I don't see any amplification circuits on that board. :smt017

That would explain alot, so what would you suggest i do for hooking up a xbox 360 and making its audio work. I found a small amp on egay that looks pretty good for this maybe

That amp would work, but you would have to find a way to connect it to your speakers without cutting the wires. :smt012

EDIT!!:

After taking a closer look at that pcb, it is in fact an amp. I should have taken a better look. :smt083 The only problem now is how to connect it.

The Namco mobo this cab has/had is supposed to use RCA type connectors. Is this not the case?

No i cannot find any RCA hookups in the cabinet, yeah i thought it would have them to. So your saying i already have an amp correct>? Reason this is really confusing is a have a blast city and it had RCA hookups and all i did was plug the 360 into those and the sound was awsome.

Interesting. If this cab is indeed wired for JAMMA, why is the Amp in there? JAMMA game boards have on-board amplifiers, as Joshua3dg already stated..

Only thing I can think of is that the Amp only accepts high-level inputs (pre-amplified sound, so to say); this would explain why line-level sound is not very loud.

Do you have a JAMMA PCB to test in the cab?

No i dont have one, i have no clue why its jamma wired. I guess somebody did it so the cabinet would sell faster or something. Is there an amp i could use from another cabinet that can be easily found? I have a naomi amp at my house not doing anything if i could use it somehow.

Was this a 'cab only' sale? Or did it come with a game?
