Sega Naomi1 W/ GdRom Setup????

Post by OldFoo »

Whats up guys, new to the board. Hoping you guys could help me out and let me know what I need in order to get this to work. Im a member over at neo-geo.com and just decided to copy and paste this post. So pardon my laziness. I was told by a member over there to ask you guys about a power splitter I could use to power the gd rom with my current power supply.

So I've been doing some research @ Sega-Naomi.com about the Naomi1\Gd Rom\Capcom IO System requiring a extra sega psu to power the gd rom. Some websites I researched said that they did not need the extra psu for the naomi1, and some other places are saying that they did need the extra psu to power the gd rom portion of the system. Now I heard that the Naomi 2 on the other hand may not need the Extra Psu.

Now I wanted to set this up on my sigma av7000 supergun and try to avoid putting this in my astro. So.......

1. Will this work on my sigma without the extra psu?

2. Should I avoid getting the Naomi1 and get a Naomi2 instead without the psu?

3. Will the Naomi2 work without the extra psu on my sigma?

4. Should I just stop being a little bitch and get the psu?

I'm also trying to avoid as much clutter as possible.

The Naomi system with GD setup probably will not work with a supergun or standard arcade psu setup. The official Sega SUN psu is much like a computer psu (approx 150-180 watts) and outputs more power than the average arcade psu. this is why it is usually necessary to have the second psu.

The Naomi 2 system uses more power because it has dual video processors. However, the Naomi 2 is backward compatible and can play Naomi 1 games.

So I found the Sega sun Psu, Gd-Rom splitter cable, and jvs power extension for the sega naomi. Is this all I need to get the power from the psu to the gd rom and naomi, or do I need some more wiring?

That sounds like all you need for your power setup. Just keep in mind that when using the this approach that you do not connect the Capcom I/O power cable to the Naomi. You will most likely burn something out if you do.

Will do. I could see your from Jersey, so am I.

Another question. Does the Sega sun psu come with a power cord or would I have to rig one up?

No worries, it has the necessary power connections to the Naomi system.

This is what it looks like:

What I mean is how do I hook this up to a electrical socket?

Like any other power supply, it has black and white wires for AC connection. It does not have an outlet plug, so you will have to supply one.

also bare in mind that the sun psu runs off 110v and not 250v you will need a step down convertor if running any were else bar the usa. and any other place that runs 110v
