naomi 2

i just got my hands on a naomi 2 and i tried to hook it up to my naomi 1 setup (its a completes setup sega i/o board sega psu sound amp the whole thing) but when i turned it on i just got a blank screen then when i turned it off and took out the cart and turned it back on i got the naomi 2 splash screen with error 01 wich i know means it has no cart. so my question is doese the naomi 2 use a more powerful psu or is something else wrong i currently use the setup on my naomi 1 system and it works great

check your voltages are correct at the mobo

arent they the same as the naomi 1 the power pinouts are the same right? and i thought i read here somewhere that the psu had to be slightly higher as to handle the extra power it uses

True, but just check if they are not off.. 5.3 volts can really damage stuff, as opposed to what it should be (5.1). So, just check what it reads when the Naomi2 is connected. Same for the 3.3v

sorry it took so long just been busy ok heres the pinout read outs

8 pin connector

12.19 5.48 3.38

6 pin connector

the power supply is a sun power supply

model no 400-5397-01

i noticed that u said anything over 5.1 is bad but then why has my naomi 1 not burned up yet as im at 5.48 im a little confused and should i not power up my regular naomi until i got this resolved i am running it with a gdrom system but the naomi 2 has no gdrom system :smt017

5.48 is WAY too high. Good that your Naomi1 survived, but please turn down the 5V pot until it reads about 5.1. The sun PSU allows for tweaking the voltages.

hey i turned down the power to the recomended voltages and i tried the naomi 2 with the gdrom system i was using for the naomi 1 and it booted! it works andd every thing

so i am assuming i just burned up the cart it had am i right to assume that

Nice! About your assumption: There is a significant chance that you have indeed damaged the cart. Probably the buffer chips; see also http://www.sega-naomi.com/forum/viewtop ... ght=buffer.

it was just a virtua fighter game so ill just chunk it out i can get another one very cheap its not worth trying to fix unless some one here wants it
