Getting melty blood (GD rom) in a CvS 1 cabinet

Hey guys, i work at an arcade and was wanting to throw melty blood: act cadenza inside of one of our machines, but I realized the hardware situation is very different...

For one, CVS doesn't use the GD rom format but the cartridge thing...

In order for me not to waste the money i spent on CD i've decided to try and get this to work.

I found this thing on e-bay

is this all i would need to get it to work?

I've heard of things like SUN power supplies, DIMM boards, and capcom i/o boards but it's confusing to me - none of that stuff is in the ebay auction, right?

i don't have the cabinet at work right in front of me to look at it - anyone with some knowledge of what's inside a typical CvS cab able to help me out?

It looks like the auction has everything you need to run a GD game except for a power supply. If your arcade system has a SUN psu, then you're set.

yeah, i'm not sure if it's a SUN power supply or not - i wonder how i would find that out

it's just a normal power supply that goes with the naomi cartridge type games but i can try to take a closer look tomorrow when i go in

If your cabinet has a Capcom I/O, then you might not have the SUN psu. If it has the standard Sega I/O, then there's a good chance the SUN psu is there. :smt023

yea it definitely has the capcom i/o, i looked at it yesterday, but only saw 1 power supply box - we went over to the initial D game and looked at it (it's running on a gd rom) and it had another power supply unit i think...

I just realized though, isn't actress again on a cartridge and not a gd rom? so wouldn't it be easier to just find a cartridge for that and slap it in, instead of getting a whole new gd rom drive?

even so, i can't find anywhere to buy just the cartridge for a reasonable price...doh!

i was looking on this site http://www.system16.com/hardware.php?id=800&page=1 and it lists games that are on the "sega" naomi board, but it's different from the games on the http://www.system16.com/hardware.php?id=721 . however, the specs are 99.9% the same (one says power vr and the other says power vr 2, but they both have the same product name, maybe just a typo)

so theoretically, if i found MBAA as a cartridge would there be any problems?

and where the heck can i get one? lol

With a Capcom I/O, it is generally safe to run cart games on the Naomi 1 system. The Capcom I/O was made to run this type of setup. However, the Naomi 2 uses more power mainly because it has dual video chipsets. All of the games you mentioned run on the Naomi 1, so this shouldn't be a problem.

Please note that the GD system was never meant to run from the Capcom I/O by itself. Some have claimed to do so successfully, but find out that they burn out the I/O eventually. Therefore, it is not recommended that you do so.

As for the Naomi specs, it's most likely a typo. Don't worry about it.

so by "by itself" you mean without a SUN power supply?

and "not reccomended that you do so" means without a SUN power supply as well? for fear of burnout?

sorry for all the dumb questions but since this is going to be put in at where i work i don't wanna mess it up, haha.

I guess i'll have to look for one of those power supplies...anyone know a place to get em or what to look for? is SUN the brand name or does it stand for what it does, etc?

also, is there any other way to do it? I've seen little stories here and there about using a power splitter cable and just using another power supply? i have tons of those at work...

Answering this question may complicate things more than you might like. Splitting or tapping depends greatly on what hardware and wiring skills you have. If you have a standard arcade power supply, it probably won't have enough to power the Naomi and GD system. If you cabinet has a 'beefed up' psu (greater than 75 watts), then you have a much better chance at getting the power you need. Then that's where 'wiring skills' come into play.

The 'splitter' you mentioned is to split the power from the SUN psu, so it won't help you here. Be careful not to take too many short cuts to get this done as soon as possible. The more short cuts you take, the more likely you will fry your system. :smt045

there's another guy working here that is a whiz with wiring and electronics so i'm sure he could figure it out, just seeing what i might need

would i be able to just grab another power supply from the back room and use it to power the GD rom and have 2 power cables coming out of the cab?

or if i was to get a SUN power supply, how powerful of one should i get? is there a certain one? and is there a company website or just look on these forums and such

i tried to go to sun electronics websites but not sure what i'm looking for exactly...
