A few Questions about getting my new NAOMI2 Running.
A few Questions about getting my new NAOMI2 Running.
Hello all! This is my first post, and I can thankfully say I am the proud new owner of a NAOMI2 motherboard. My first question is, I paid $66 for it, plus around $18 shipping (eBay) did I get a good deal? I do not currently have a cabinet (I would *like* one of those nifty universal ones at some point...anybody selling around Houston, TX *wink* *wink*)but for now, I'm going to make do. Basically, my goal is to hook the thing up to a TV and use it basically as another console. All that came with the machine was the NAOMI2 system itself, I know I will need to get either an official PSU, or mod an ATX one, per the instructions located here. Now basically, as specified in my title, what else do I need to get this beauty up and running? I know a game is rather obvious. For the controls, since JVS is USB, can you use a USB joystick? Are those Capcom IO adapters expensive? Can you easily adapt Megadrive controllers to JAMMA?
Hi, and welcome!
USD66 for a Naomi2 is a good deal (if it is fully working, that is
).
A lot of questions..! Well, you will indeed need a PSU, proper cabling, an I/O to hook up the controls, etc. Connecting the Naomi to a TV can be done using either a supergun or a converter that converts the Naomi video output to a TV. The USB interface on the Naomi is NOT a standard USB interface to connect peripherals to. It is used to communicate with the I/O interface only.

That contains a LOT of useful data. Take it in, and don't hesitate to ask more questions later

yep, you will need psu & i/o board at the minum.
there was a complete n1 setup w/psu, io/cabling, and dead gdrom drive that just sold for $149 buy it now, would of had everything you needed to get the n2 up and running.
if you can find a capcom i/o for cheap, it will power up the n2 from a standard jamma harness.
you will also need a rom cart, or dimm and gdrom and gdrom game.

It is not recommended to power the Naomi2 with the Capcom I/O. Best would be to power the I/O through the JAMMA harness, and use a seperate PSU for the Naomi+GDROM. Just too many issues with failing Naomi's that are powered through the Capcom I/O.
