I will soon have a Outrun 2 driving setup using the Chihiro Type 3, Scud dash, MIDI motor drive bd, etc.
Will this setup also be able to play Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 2? Or do I need another steering wheel/motor driver PCB?
Thanks..!
Wangan 2 on Outrun 2 setup?

Wangan will work with the steering wheel etc, but no feedback..
I believe Wangan 2 works with the same Namco steer board, V257 STR PCB as the System 246 drivers like Ridge Racer 5 and Wangan Midnight which work with a Atari/Midway/Happ style 2 wire feedback motor. Would be a bit of rewiring not to mention fitting the motor to the dash. Funny, I just bought a Wangan 2 GD ROM and will be doing that same conversion.

Thanks. I will try this soon. let's see how bad it plays without force feedback

No such thing as coincedence

Hmm.. fitting a different motor to the dash.. that is a challenge. I guess in a two-wire setup the position of the steering wheel is determined based on the value of a potentiometer position? Sounds like a lot of work.. Or would it be feasible to mount an entire happ-style steering assembly+motor to the dash? I recently read about someone that actually mounted a G25 wheel in an Initial D dash. Required some metal work, though.

Yes, when I say 2 wire, I mean 2 wires to the motor and 3 to the pot (of course). I am actually working in the other direction, running an Outrun2 on a a cab wired with a Happ motor. Works fine, steering wheel is centered when you are going straight and I didn't need to move the pot at all. Not quite the same without feedback though. I am picking up a Super GT dash this weekend and will fit the motor in my dash (I already have the MIDI board). Good luck with your project!

Remember each Namco board needs it's own program rom present on there (surface mount)
NickH wrote:Are they game specific? My Ridge Racer V and Wangan Midnight both run on the same 246 and STR PCB, I just change the DVD & security fob. Do you know if you would need a different ROM for Wangan 2/Maxi Tune? If so are there any files on these so you could burn one?
Yes you need different eproms for maximum tune and also mario kart..
It's a surface mount rom as well..
