Problem: Sega IO + Arcade-system + Joystick

so, i have different joystick, some i wire myself (sub-d 15):

neogeo joystick old

neogeo joystick new

saturn vf stick

dreamcast arcade stick (with+green buttons)

gamecube soul calibur stick

and my home-made arcade-system

when i play mvs (neogeo) games, it's all ok

when i play cps2 (6 buttons) games, it's all ok

BUT

when i play naomi with sega IO (jamma)

the dreamcast and gamecube stick have big troubles

i go to test menu to understand, in the IO,

i can the binarie status of the joystick

same bit is already on, when a push 2 button, some direction

is on.

when i connect the saturn vf stick, it work fine, perfectly.

i understand is because of the joystick inside pcb

how to correct it ?

You could try setting the Naomi to single player v.s. double player panel. Also, how are you hooking up the 5th and 6th buttons as these are not jamma standard. Could try to disconnect these just to see if thats the problem.

for the 5 and 6 button, i am not agree with you, when i see a game manual (pdf) in the end we can see a wiring diagram with a sega IO,

and the button 5 is in the jamma of the sega IO.

For button 6, i understand i need an extra-wiring.

i will try to make a video tonight.

where to free upload video ?

for me it's the dreamcast/gamecube joystick's inside pcb who works bad with the sega IO

but it's stange the saturn joystick (3 buttons) work fine, and

when i connect dreamcast/gamecube joystick with a cps2,

all buttons works fine.

when i test joystick i push one button at time,

except when i'm going crazy (like playing virtua athletics :smt079 )

so i hope you can understand my problem

because when i use dreamcast or gamecube joystick on cps2

it's all working fine !!!

strange...

ps: i don't knowlegde in electronic, etc... but i can do little easy thing,

for exemple i wire myself my arcade-system, all the joystick, etc...

ps: like you can see in video, i play naomi without the jvs connector, i just push cable in... it's dangerous, but i'm fanatic LOL :smt043

I'm curious. You have 2 of 3 controllers working. I'd say that's pretty good under the circumstances. Why is it important that you have the third? :smt102

i have this:

neogeo 4 buttons old

neogeo 4 buttons new

saturn vf 3 buttons (wired by myself)

gamecube 6 buttons (wired by myself)

when i play all the over mobo i have, where is no probleme:

mvs, cps2 (6 buttons), hyper neo 64, st-v, namco system 11, namco system 12, sega model 3

all work good.

now when i try to play naomi by my sega IO (i only have this IO)

the 4 first joystick work good but

the dreamcast and gamecube have problem

it seem the inside pcb of the joystick "talk" with sega io

what why when i push one button or direction on gamecube, i get 5 or 6 pushed (button and direction), when i don't touch gamecube stick, there is small interferencie (hard to see in my video because very quick 0->1->0... etc)

for the dreamcast, like you see, when i push nothing, 6 or 7 button a in position pushed (that why virtua athletics begins one credit without i push anything)

Thanks for the video. I am not familiar with that DC and GC stick. But I would suggest you troubleshoot the problem by doing the following.

Disconnect all buttons but one, and the ground, and see if that works. Then hookup one more button test, and then another button and test. Once you see something abnormal stop, disconnect, and check with a multimeter the continuity of each button to ground. Then check again with it hooked up.

I remember some crappy Dreamcast sticks used multiple grounds, and was next to immossible to hack, unless you could use multiple grounds.

but when i wired stick, i try every button with a multi-meter for continuity and ground. all has been tested good (cps2 work fine)

i think i must disconnect the stick's pcb because it "talk" with sega IO :smt010

(i will try this when i have time)

i was hoping someone already know this problem.
