BoardMaster NAOMI Conversion Project

Post by OldFoo »

Hey All,

Been busy at work but got a little time this weekend and wanted to get started on BoardMaster/NAOMI Conversion

Basically I just want USB cable running from NAOMI to BoardMaster.

I'll drive audio and video from NAOMI RCA and VGA into my Home Theater Stereo and Projector.

I Dont want to use the capcom interface. To many wires to run and I want to have Boardmaster 10-20 ft from NAOMI.

I've got...

Boardmaster

Bunch o' Contol Panels

I/O board with USB interface

USB Cable

Harnesses from I/O to CP's

Got some extra parts on the side???

I think Megalo mentioned I need different power supply and footprint is the same

I guess I need to get Power Supply and Harness to connect to I/O board

I'm planning on splicing in connectors to blast city panel to remove and interchange JAMMA/NAOMI

Plan on using NAOMI2 with Starkes Super Charged Dual Bios GDROM and DIMM as platform (any other ways to supercharge N2)

Any Pointers or Direction Appreciated.

Thanks

Bob Presutti

That's a Boardmaster, not a Blastmaster.

Good luck with your project.

Thanks Parodius.

Naming Corrected...

Also I dug a little bit and found the power supply I need

your idea sounds spot on - if you have a NON JAMMA I/O - but the PSU wouldn't be upto the job as it is only standard JAMMA so theres no 3.3v, however, Sanwa make JVS PSU's namely the Sanwa SWN-JVS, same shape as the BM's PSU, but as its JVS, you could power the Non JAMMA I/O and any Naomi motherboard setup :smt020 I once planned what you suggested but never got around to doing it, simply because I dont have a NON JAMMA I/O.

So, now all I need is Sanwa JVS PSU...

And wiring loom to connect the two. Probably will have to make this...

Stark, Can you make one. :D

Stark, P.S. I also would like to get a custom NAOMI2 made with JAPAN/EXPORT BIOS and Switch. I can supply NAOMI2 MOBO. LMK. Thanks

Any threads on wiring JVS /IO to Power Supply

Thanks

Powering the JVS I/O is easy.

On my test setup I have a little pass through power lead (similar to the GD-ROM power lead).

All you need is +5V and GND, (Ignore +12V as that is for coin mechs)

CN7 4pin JST NH connector (5V Power in)

------------------------------------------------------

01 +5v

02 +5v

03 GND

04 GND

Cool, Thanks Geezer. :smt006

I think I have a 4 pin JST connector from the same harness I am planning on hacking up to connect the NAOMI side. If not I'll just buy one.

So if I understand correctly the PS that is inside the BoardMaster (5V) sould be good to go as far as powering the JVS I/O?

I already found an extra whole in the back of the BoardMaster to route the USB cable through. All I need is a gromet to protect the cable.

Then just drill 4 holes to mount the JVS I/O, mount it, make the harness per your pinout instructions and the Boarmaster will be 'ready to go' :D

I've got a NAOMI Power Supply and US harness from a gutted game to put together the NAOMI side. Just need to find a suitable enclosure at my local home improvement store.

Thanks

I think I have the 4 pin JST connector and harness for CN7.

Now just need to put some terminals on it and hook up to power supply in BoardMaster

Stark, Once I get this up and running I want to convert my N2 to Dual Bios.

Like this..

Bob it is worth making sure pin 1 and 2 are red, otherwise you might forget the +5V, Gnd and zap the pcb

Hi Geezer, Thanks!

Got it. :D

Now do I just...

1) hook up JVS I/O to boardmaster power supply?

2) hook up control panels to JVS I/O and Harnesses?

3) Connect USB from JVS I/O? to NAOMI

(Do I need 2 for some games w/trackball - Outtrigger, VG, etc?)

4) Mount JVS I/O

5) Power Naomi?

6) Connect VGA and Audio to Projector/Stereo?

7) Done? :smt026

Hook up the I/O to any +5v source, it only need +5V and the amps on that doesn't have to be high.

So any +5V PSU should be okay.
