What can I do with an 18 wheeler cab?

Post by OldFoo »

Because I have the opportunity, I'm thinking about buing an 18 Wheeler cabinet. But it's not worth it for me to buy for just one game.

What other driving games could be played on it?

And I know I'm propably asking stupid things, but since I would love to get my hands on other games as well, what would need to be done in order to use joysticks in this cab? Could there be a way to install some whole control panel (with joysticks and buttons) in the steering wheels place? Or would it have to be some crazy custom job?

What kind of price would an 18 Wheeler cab usually go for?

You re not REALLY thinking in converting a racing cab into a standard cab are you ? Why dont you buy a "classic" universal instead ? That would be cheaper, faster and easier. 18" wheeler cabs are not common enough to be slaughtered imo. Sounds like nonsense to me. :smt017

I agree. Dedicated cabs are expensive and difficult to convert. Considering there are so many universal cabs, it doesn't really seem worth it. :smt009

Back to the important part of the question. What other driving games can be played?

Well, based on your response, I guess I'm not. That's what I was asking, is there a good way to put in joysticks in, meaning I don't want to do anything irreversible.

The reason I was even considering it, is that there aren't that many Naomi's for sale here in Finland... Believe me, I'd rather have an Universal.

I would gladely trade your cab with an universal if you bring it at my place in belgium :)

You can put joystick in by swapping the panels but still you would need to buy a new panel and probably some other misc parts. When you know the prices of sega spare parts i am not sure this is going to be a smart move.

Andygeezer would be able to answer that question in details.

Where you located??

18wheeler can play 18wheeler only, as it has a optical belt wheel among other things.

CrazyTaxi/Jumbo cabs can play Initial D, outurn 2 and others with little modification.

That's quite interesting to know. What sort of modification is required?

What other games would one be able to play on a Naomi Universal driving cabinet with a tri-sync monitor installed? Would it be possible to play Sega Rally 1 and 2, Scud Race, Daytona etc?

I've never looked into how a normal Jamma cabinet interfaces with driving controls, let alone a Naomi driving set-up. I assume any problems arise from interfacing different types of wheels, gear shifts and pedals?

Sega Model 1,2 & 3 games require too many pcb's to function IMO. And driving games probably have even more. The cab mentioned here is for Naomi driving games which don't require much modification. Most of the changes need to be to the panel layout/controls.
