Naomi 2 Fan - loud as a chainsaw?

Post by OldFoo »

Hello everyone. Today I tested my ATX power adapter by powering on my recently acquired Naomi 2 motherboard. It worked - I tested it only for 1 minute though. What I noticed is that the fan on the mainboard was veeeeery loud - okay, the chainsaw comparison is exegerated, but it sure is LOUD! Afterwards I did the same with my Triforce B Motherboard and it's fan was as silent as I know it from PC hardware.

Just want to know if the Naomi fan is noisy, but I think I'm gonna replace it anyway. Just curious ; )

As the fans age and collect dust, they get louder and louder. Replacement is the best solution. ;)

joshua, you are right. I just uncased the MoBo. I already noticed that it smells like a full cigarette ashtray. Arcade environments are so unhealthy ; ) Now, after uncasing it, I can see that all the 3 fans, especially the 60mm fan, is covered by a black, oily coat. Screaming for replacement - especially since fans are not that expensive.

Thanks for the link, RGP, I will get myself a nice, not too loud 60mm fan tommorrow. Got to think about how to replace this 40mm fans though since the case looks a bit strange...

i am always going on about the importance of fans inside any electronic equipment, bad ventilation=more heat=drying caps=unstable voltages.
