Official Sega IO Questions

Post by OldFoo »

I did some searching, and though I managed to find a couple threads here & there, I'm having trouble pinpointing it - I'm running a Jamma cab, w/an official Sega I/O, rigged for Jamma. Here's a pic: Image

The thing is - my coin switches are both closed, & none of my inputs work. What's killing me is that I've done this before, years ago, and didn't have a problem; however, I do seem to recall there's something I'm forgetting... what keeps popping up in my head is that I had jumpered a couple pins on the 60pin CN? Maybe? (btw, my voltages are all dead on)

My 2nd question is just an inquiry really; anyone recognize the I/O on the left? I assume it came with a kit, know which one?

This is an interesting setup. However, why did you go through so much trouble when you could have used a Jamma I/O? I think it would save you alot of trouble. :smt017

cause it's fun to make stuff dude!

i do have several Jamma I/Os, 2 Cap/2 RevBs, my uni's got a sega, & the cyberlead has, um, cyberleads - just had these two lying around, and decided to make it happen!

Ah, I see! That's good enough for me. :smt081

To find out for sure what the pcb on the left is, post the part number that is painted on the surface. For example, the one on the right is 837-13551. It's in the pic, but I can't quite make it out.

Coin inputs will never work on Sega I/O unless you either hook up coin meters or do the following:

Take a +5V from the 60pin connector (pins 1 to 8)

and loop it into pin 49 (meter 1)

and do the same for pin 50 (meter 2), in the middle of the +5V loop wire, put a 120ohm resistor.

It will work fine then.

Give me the part # for the other I/O

I knew it had something to do w/jumpering those pins! Thanks man!

The PN is 837-14505

btw, so applying the coin fix should enable all my other inputs as well, then? You wouldn't happen to know why that is (technically) would you? Thanks again -

That I/O board (837-14505) seems to have come from a Lindbergh game. So far, I've located it in a game called "Let's go Jungle". I'm not sure where you got it, but it's interesting. ;)

About the input issue, I think that Sega made it so that the arcade machines would not operate without a working coin counter. After all, clicks=money!

Ah, it must've come in one of my Afterburner Climax Deluxe kits -

just kidding, lol, truth is, I can't remember where I got it either; it was just in a box that I was digging through. Thanks for the info on the inputs, and the wiring especially, Andy. Turns out, the 'lindbergh?' I/O is compatible w/Naomi as well. Essentially, they do look the same, less the socketed eeprom. But check out CN9:
