I've finally got a naomi........I think....

Post by OldFoo »

Hi guys,

I've just completed a trade where I procured a naomi motherboard with various components.

The person I traded with was very nice & I highly recommend dealing with them (englishman_in_plantcity).

Here is a picture of the stuff I got (I didn't include all of the cables in the photo).

I think I've got a Sega Stand Alone Audio Amp and PSU, I also think I have a sega I/O Jamma converter, although it looks a bit different than the photo on the main site and it appears to be missing the jamma edge.

Here is my issue, Do I have everything I need (Well I know I need a game to play, but that is a differnt issue)?

How do I go about safely testing what I have & can I even test everything without having a game?

Well any info/advice I can get will be much appreciated. Thanks.

You have the "JVS only I/O" which has a different connection for the buttons (the long terminal). Andy Geezer has the wiring you'll need. Besides this, it sounds like you have all you need to set it up. If you are not using a jamma cab, this I/O is just as good as the Jamma I/O - maybe someone will add the JVS only I/O to the main site someday in 2025 or so ; )

And given you have the necsessary cables, you can test your stuff - even without a game inserted.

And yes, Mick (Englishman_in_P) is a cool dude : )

just remember the power supply is 110vac not 230vac,but i guess you know to use the transformer with the matching input plug

on 31k mode you can plug direct to a vga monitor to test

Actually,

I know nothing at this point. I'm waiting for some pictures from (EPC) on his similar set up. I'm also looking for any other advice etc.

Thanks.

you can test a naomi with just the i/o,naomi mobo, power supply with a connection to a vga monitor(lcd/pc etc),there is another display option but best to leave that to later

basically its best to know what country you reside first as that will decide what your mains voltage is.

a naomi cab in the u.k has 230 vac entering the cab, this is then(using a large stepdown transformer) stepped down to 110/120vac.

this 120 vac then goes to power the monitor, power supply and sound board transformer

the power supply output plugs to the naomi mobo

you should have a small transformer that plugs to the sound board

how do you intend to use the naomi set up?are you gonna buy or build a cab or will you just use a supergun and connect it to a tv?

some clearer pics of the parts you were sold would help more,i bit of advice i can suggest is for you to get a multimeter as its a must for checking wiring and voltages-always check before you plug anything in,better safe than sorry

I use the exact same setup in all my Naomi Cabinets (the dedicated USA versions) and I like the JVS setup, and works great with MvC2 as already has all the wires needed for 6 buttons and then some, If you require any more help just PM me and happy to help, or talk you through over the phone if needed, you have everything all the way to the control panel harness which again I can help with If i know what you are doing with it, Good luck and thanks Mick

@ classicvideogamer:

Needless to say, you're in the right place man, welcome! Oh and Grant's the 1st guy I, myself go to for tech advice, & that's not modesty talking either, lol.

@ Grant:

surprisingly, not a single request for spanish as of yet - but I'm sure w/out a doubt they've got their own killer forums. the Spanish don't screw around when it comes to cabs :smt042

Hi guys,

Wow, thanks for all of the info (It will take me some time to digest it), I'm really excited to be on board now though. I'm going to try to test out my unit though possibly by next weekend. I'll keep you guys posted on how it's going. Thanks.
